I mean chess.com should have system in place if opponent doesn't make his move within let's say 8/10 mins system should abandoned the game.
why don't people resign..??
Its like 2 people being given $100 to spend, one spends it on clothes the other takes their time and looks around to find the best value.Should you be telling them how to spend their money.Let players do their own thinking in their own time
I imagine that people don't resign because they don't like losing. I used to sweep the pieces off the board when I was little and my brain hurt too much.
I think they are behaving like children rather than jerks.
My opponent had about 23mins on his clock and he just left the board without resignation.
For some people. Chess is all they have in their lifes. So, points mean everything to them. It's sad. But that's the only explanation I got.
its simple, they dont resign because they know they going to lose so the only way to get you back is to waste your time and make you wait and wait. players like that are sore losers, unfortunetly the can only feel sorry for them, and thats the bottom line.
Switch to shorter time control games and you don't have to wait so long if that happens and/or block the player who does that and you won't have to deal with that person anymore, ofc there are surely others who do the same when they are about to lose.
In the end, chess is about you and your opponent fighting over who is better. The game is harsh: if you lose there is no RNG, no luck, no element of chance, only one to be blamed is you. Not everyone can take it, they feel sh*t for it and they will do anything to get little satisfaction by annoying the winner.
You don't have to wait for the other player to move. I think it would be good it there was an beep you could turn on that went off when your oppenent made a move, so that you could do other things when you stopped thinking about the position and were waiting for a move.
When this happens OTB I think it is less annoying because you have more idea what the other person is doing.

Agree with you. Although I almost play 10min matches, I usually have smt to do (like reading some news/comic/etc) when play a game. But hardly do this, 10 mins is short, you know.
I think people hope that eventually you will walk away and they will win on resignation. There is one other explanation, which is they are sore losers and they want to inflict some pain (in this case control) over a hopeless situation.

WORD.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
We have long time control like 45/45 even 90/30 if you play that format and opponent just walk away. I don't think anyone would wait until game gets over.

No - you play a say, 45 minute game, and have 1 move that's critical that takes 22 minutes to figure out. That rule won't work.
I do not play for time, but i rarely resign because of the point system, its better to be caught or stale mate and play the game within time bouderies its also good to practice end games, but I have played many players who just dont move and after 10 mins the game is abandond, just played one such player and i got 12 points! but i would rather play the game win or lose
As long as a player's reasoning can't be ascertained, noone can say for sure if he is "stalling to make opponents wait unnecessarily" or not. He could be calculating a 14-move variation, if he so wishes. It's up to him how to spend his time, that's why it is his time.
The best solution in such cases is: play a time control that isn't longer than the time you really intend and agree to spend playing (which should be so anyway).
Hi,
I usually play slow chess game preferably 30 mins. My opponent had about 23mins on his clock and he just left the board without resignation.
And I have about 14 mins left so I had to wait 14 mins to win the game.
Eventually he played his move in minute.
I think its annoying I mean win or lose whatever why don't they continue the game if you know anyway you gonna lose the game on time.
