Why I’m Quitting Chess

This is a picture of my blitz improvement over three years.

Blitz improvement is by far the most frustrating time control to improve in. I've found it's almost purely based on three things:

1. Experience

2. Opening Knowledge

3. How tired you are.

If you want to improve your blitz, I reccomend playing lots and lots of rapid. This, in my opinion, is the best way to get quick improvement. You'll notice above that my blitz saw extremely slow improvement until 1500. The reason is that I played blitz constantly, which didn't actually help my chess playing ability improve. Once I started focusing on rapid, the blitz improvement just kind of came.

Also get LOTS of sleep for blitz. When I'm tired, I think I play at a roughly 1300 level.

I absolutely agree, Beginners should play Rapid instead of blitz, that's how I improved, and once you're pretty good at Rapid then you can start playing Blitz again. I was only 800 7 months ago now I'm 1500 in Rapid and still trying to improve.

I dont get why people close their accs when their on a really bad slump

first off, tilts happen. Accept it.

Second off, if you see no improvement in blitz you might want to a. Start playing rapiD

also everyone has a low rating if you want high rating you might want to start taking chess srsly.

I get it, I left and took something like a 7 year break then returned. Such a frustrating game. I'm enjoying it again...still not very good but I will keep playing as long as it remains fun for me

I quit a few times myself but always coming back.  There are a lot of reason to quit due to the change of life's priority such as getting a gf, going to law school, and etc.

But I would keep all the equipments and chessbooks and don't delete any files.  You might regret it when you decide to come back.

Moreover, chess is more fun when played without any expectations.  I am perfectly fine with being rated 1200 for life.

Btw, if you guys are wondering why I posted this, it was to let you know my reasoning and so I can't change my mind later.

Well everything that is worthwhile is very difficult and everyone reaches that point in their life! In my experience with my students, i found out that having 1-2 days break from chess each week and not playing too many games per day (instead spend that time  fixing your weaknesses by reading books, watching videos, using help from your coach etc) is one of the best ways to stop losing and start improving
