Good question
Why is the most powerful, versatile and indispensable chess piece a woman?

her abandoned army are left to protect the old fool on their own! That's no easy task if the other side still has their queen!
Oh, darlin', you're confusing support with leadership. In battlefield war, the tank is about the most powerful piece on the battlefield. HOwever, that hardly means the tanks are in charge of things. No, they only play a supporting role.
The queen is like this. She goes out and lends her power and influence to the kings army. The king is still in charge and calling the shots.

I have always heard of and seen queen sacrifices, but have never done one of my own. Any time I've ever lost my queen, it was a blunder, and I followed her loss up with a resignation. I'm just not willing to go on without her. Her loss is too much for me to bear.
Aww, that sounds so incredibly sweet. :)

Just 'cause you're a Queen, doesn't mean you are a lady.
Are there male queens?

Freddie Mercury??

..... and he had some good moves!!

the queen is worth 9, have two rooks as compensation for her loss and you're good to go. SHE IS NOT INDISPENSIBLE!!!!!!!

The birth of the queen
The queen evolved from the Indian vizier who
was the king's chief minister or advisor.
Originally a weak piece, the queen was given its
great powers towards the end of the 15th cen-
tury. Whether this bestowal was an act of
chivalry or just another attempt to speed up the
game remains unclear. It seems certain, how-
ever, that medieval Europe was accustomed to
powerful queens--and this reality can also
explain the gender change.

That's why we have PRESIDENTS who are VOTED IN now. If we stick to having leaders from the same family, some day a lousy king will take the throne and cause the downfall of the whole kingdom. Statistically, there are more useless kings than benevolent kings in the history of this world.
We elected Barack Obama ._.

Yeah, as many others have said, she wasn't a queen originally and wasn't very powerful. It seems likely that the change happened as the game entered medieval europe, which makes sense. While royal bloodlines and land inheritance were always passed down to the first applicable male in the family, that didn't change the fact that queens were highly influential people in the medieval period. From Eleanor of Aquitaine(She managed to become queen of both France and England in her lifetime, and was arguably the most influential figure of the time) to the nearly-divinized queen Elizabeth I, there were many powerful women in medieval Europe aroudn the time that chess became popular there.
And lets not forget the pawns they are nothing more than a bunch of sex starved mindless minions whos only purpose in their useless existence is to die and the sooner the better so that the transexual queen of dubious gender can reign supreme and pander to the King who has his own member clasped between his fist wondering which way his own sexual orientation goes
