I'm guessing RottenTomato was taken. All the good ones are. After all, FredBloggs was taken.

I bet qwertyGEICOBlueMagoes15 isn't taken. That's a pretty good one

I'll bet that one will never be taken - except perhaps by you.

You'll have to explain what you mean. By the way, thanks for saving the 600th post for me.  wink.png

I don't know how else to explain what I said.

By the way, we got off topic again lol

I haven't the foggiest what that means.

Yeah, we get off topic on a regular basis. Maybe that's a good thing.  wink.png

I see. The rook is short so it will be more stable. Okay. Then why is the bishop so tall?  wink.png

I am a tall Bishop. I use a staff to enhance my stability much like a tightrope walker uses his pole.

Did you have to give him the answer?

The history of the bishop chess piece is also interesting, perhaps even more than the rook.

We touched on this in our article on Staunton sets. (NB, this article is different to a similarly titled article also by us) http://www.chessspy.com/articles/Icons%20and%20Staunton.pdf

The part which deals with the French bishops (Le Fou) is a separate part on the last page

That reminds me. Are you planning to discuss the history of board games? I would be interested in that if it explains something about the development of chess in particular.

In real life, a bishop is given a hat so someone can more easily spot him in a crowd, so the bishop is tall in chess. Why exactly would people want bishops to be taller in real life? So we can ask the bishop questions like this:

Now that's good! You partially redeemed yourself for your incomprehensible post above. However, you still owe us a few more chess-related cartoons.  wink.png

@stewardjandstewardj:  How about visiting Favorite famous game, man? Lately blueemu and I are the only ones contributing anything. Well, not counting the Italian guy who evidently doesn't speak English.

@BISHOP_e3:  And Favorite famous game doesn't even have a troll! It's embarrassing to have a thread that doesn't even attract a troll. I figured you'd want to help a buddy out.  wink.png

Hi Fred,

The history of board games has been looked at elsewhere and I am more interested in publishing new stuff as we work towards our book on the subject. (my wife is a historian)

I do have some interesting stuff and will put it out as seems appropriate.

My wife and I met on a fairly select chess research group.
