Why is this game so male-dominated?

I have friends who've informed me being frightened can be a useful emotion in some way, however they never said such in regards to losing a chess game to a woman and I'm fairly certain they would've told me if it was important.

As I said, It's not just chess. It's a need to feel superior in ALL things considered manly.

I'm not convinced being frightened is that useful despite the fact a couple of my friends speak as if they want me to be more familiar with the emotion.  I was just relaying what I've heard.

Never feel inferior to another. That way you never feel insecure.

Fear is a great motivator.  Anyone claiming to be fearless is either a liar, mysanthrope, or moron.

Miss_Anthrope would make a neat handle.

I don't particularly accept that either sex plays better than the other. The main reason, I believe, that chess is dominated by males is the fundamental need (what ever that is) statistically for more males in general, to play games, computer games, etc... than with females.

Bartleby73

There are two very interesting articles in the back of Susan Polgar's book "Breaking Through" which answer the questions addressed in this thread very well. I suggest anyone should read this to get a qualified answer from someone in the know before coming to weird conclusions based on sexist thinking.

Because men only see life in black and white...they find chess easy.

Women love shades of gray....and find it unappealing.

being good at chess isnt crucial to a womans survival!  Being good at anything (other than looking hot) for a girl, really doesnt matter..except maybe cooking, cleaning, and taking care of a man. A woman can work if she wants to, but its not that important since society allows her to depend on a man if she wants. Men, on the other hand, have to find something they are really good at and persue it with passion so that they can find a woman to mooch off of them for the rest of their lives( sex in exchange for food, sheldter and clothing). If a  man cant find something to really excel at, he wont be able to get the girl he wants. If a girl sucks at chess, who cares?

This subject really brings the moron out of some men...

Let’s be honest, if a girl loses a game of chess 70ish% of the time they go, "well I am not very good or I don’t have the talent" a guy goes "how dare you!" Then studies for a month and goes again for revenge. Who do you think will advance faster and to a higher skill level?

On second thought, let's make up statistics.  It's a lot more fun.

It is the esoteric energy of the planet Mars. It is the ability of Bear Grylls to leap off a towering inferno to safety. It is the Vibe. Mabo.

well, I gave you the name of the book. You find it there! I actually made an effort to find bits of it online but failed. You can google Susan Polgar and Paul Truong. Maybe you find more info.
