I like Topalov's chess more than Kramnik's but am a bigger fan of Anand than either of them. I will never forgive Kramnik for not giving Kasparov a rematch and even avoiding him for the rest of Kasparov's career after their match, which I also think was very suspicious.
Why is Topalov look down upon so much?

I wouldnt accuse my opponent of cheating if he was going too frequently but I might just go with him and see what he's doing...... is there any rules against that ?
They had separate washrooms on opposite sides of the board.
hmm ok...so which one of them take the 'ladies' ?

Hmm, whoever lost the coin toss I suppose

Does this mean I wouldnt be allowed to follow him to his toilet ? That would only increase my suspicion ! The only real problem with this idea would be if my opponent is female.....

Not if she is beautiful

* NEWSFLASH * NEWSFLASH * NEWSFLASH *
National Master caught peering over toilet stall. When asked, NM Reb stated his purpose as entirely innocent: "I just wanted to see if he was playing with his pieces". NM Reb has been bailed to appear in court at an, as yet, unspecified date on charges of public indecency.
(Prawn Division).

he should wash his hand so it wouldn't looked so suspicious then !
Absolutely not. He should've had them soaked in piss, returned to the table, yelled "J'adoube!" in topalov's face (this was before Sofia rules) and then adjusted all of Veselin's pieces.

"Topalov is never missed."
That sums it up. The dude is simply a jerk. I have been around the chess comunity for a long time and you will scarecely find a chess player with such a bad attitude or an annoying manager. He is a brilliant chess player but he needs to take group therapy on how to get along with others (and his manager too).

Do you often follow beautiful women into bathrooms, then?

I browsed around YouTube on Topalov, with the idea of getting a personal opinion on the Super GM. I found an interview where he gives a balanced and honest impression: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_W3NF4CEqI&feature=related
It was at the party later where Topalov really let himself down. Already wearing a baseball cap emblazoned with "I retired Kasparov" he got drunk and publicly mooned a picture of Kasparov, shouting "I kill you! you are nothing! NOTHING!".
No wonder he has so few fans outside of Bulgaria.

I've got to say, that hat sounds fantastic... well, it would be, were it not for the obvious boorishness and total lack of irony.
But yeah, I want my own.

by the OP:
1) I don't know everything about the 'Toiletgate' incident but doesn't Topalov have the right to be suspicious of Kramnik's behavior by going to the toilet a lot? Maybe I don't know the exact details but how did this exactly play out? Did he not drop his accusations or did he accuse him during the game?

I have worked on computers and cables, and I tell you that in most offices there are lots of cables above the ceilings, like a nervous system. The wires go here and there so people can connect to LANs and immobile phones.
Surprisingly, the cable found in the toilet doesn't even had an RJ45 connector/jumper. How can anyone possibly use that. And if there's connector then how can Kramnik use that when he had no laptop with him?
Personally, when I play OTB, especially in tournaments, I get somewhat annoyed if my opponent rises from his chair and walks away - it's like him saying "take your time, think all you can, and then tell me if it's my turn to move." When you concentrate on the board, and someone in your front moves to and fro, that distracts the eyes, and also the noise the chair, the 'uhrm', the footsteps produced add to the distraction. Kramnik overused it, and was given a cup when he needed to use the toilet after.

A disturbing thing about the Elista incident is that FIDE actually didn't checked the accusations until the match was over. From what I have read they did not allowed proper inspection and told the complaining side to just shut up. Even if there was no cheating, one good thing out of this was that the next matches became more transparent.

i followed everything closely in that Elista match. That was the first time I heard about Topalov, after having not played or followed chess for over a decade. Before the match began I reviewed their profiles so I could get acquainted with the players. I have read about people accusing Topalov of cheating during the San Luis tournament where he won the FIDE championship. This San Luis tournament, I still know nothing about it as I focused on the Elista match. And after that I still not probed on the issue. But this forum has reminded me of that, so those who are familiar with the things that took place in that tournament can relay them here.

I like how Topalov implies that Kramnik and his team threatened him.
In an interview with the Spanish daily ABC published on 14 December 2006, Topalov alleged that Kramnik had cheated with computer help during the match, that network cables had been found in the bathroom ceiling, that threats were issued, and that he felt physically unsafe during the match.[52]
All in all, he's a sore loser, a jackass, and he managed to lose the game even though he was awarded with a free win in game 5 that wasn't even played.

Well, this story is really unconclusive:
"Despite there being an unusual number of visits, this is insufficient on its own to come to a conclusion." and "There were technical problems that did not allow a full recording of the rest rooms where a partial recording was made available."
And yet FIDE decided "To close both the toilets in the players' rest rooms and to open another toilet that will be available only to the two players."
So, the comittee didn't found the accusations unreasonable.
