World Chess Championship format

 Why don't they have a proper World Championship tournament where everyone qualifies fairly from a level playing field?

 In 2016, we have the Champion qualifying automatically for the final, the 2014 runner-up qualifying automatically for the candidates tournament, an organizer's nominee qualifying automatically for the candidates tournament, and 2 players qualifying automatically by rating.

 Only 4 of the 9 players that play in next year's World Chess Championship (2 qualify from the Chess World Cup and 2 from the Chess grand prix) actually have to earn their place in the Championship. I hope it's 1 of those 4 that win it; the others need to prove they deserve to be playing in it first.
