A few beginnner questions -

Long time chess player. Great site, but new to it - a few questions:

If after a game, I click that my opponent was a good sport and click to say good game, does he or she receive it? - if they respond will it show up in my messages? I understand that as I'm playing only 10 min games so far, most people (like me) are fast-paced and won't take the time. No problem, just want to make sure messaging works.

One more question please - as I've said, I'm impatient and so play fast and make mistakes - I know it'd improve my rating and results to slow down to a 20 minute game - does anyone else contend with this conflict in their approach - ie - playing too fast, but enjoying that pace?

Thanks - again, great site and service.

Yes, they'll see it if they haven't already left the game. If they've already gone on to play someone else they may not see it.

Different time controls affect your play in different ways. Quick time controls force you to seek the initiative but make you superficial. Slow time controls help to develop you ability to calculate in more depth and weigh up positional considerations. Do both, to make you active and deep.

Thanks chyss - figured that was the way of it with responses. And you're right about speed of play - I love thinking fast in the 10 min games, but I need to try and slow down - play a 20 min game or two and see how it affects my game in terms of both enjoyment and results. Thanks again.
