Your rating won't change for a win under four (I think) moves. Don't worry about these little bumps in the road, all settles out in the end.
p.s. You could go into your game settings and uncheck the "auto win on time" box and wait for your opponent to return. I don't advise it but it's there if you want go that way.
Hello. I am a new member here on Chess.com and have only played two unrated games. I finally started a few rated games just the other day. But, I seem to be running into a situation. It appears that my first rated game is going to be won on a time out! I played a first move, and the person who challenged me has not made his first move... as a matter of fact he has not been on since he challenged me. Now, he is a paying member, but the game against me is his first game!
Now, I am afraid that if I win on this time out, my rating is going to go past 1200 without earning it. I have signed up for a tournament that has a max of 1200 rating. I am contemplating resigning the game to avoid this undeserved win. My question is, would that be considered poor etiquette on my part? That would be manipulating my rating on purpose. I would also be losing a game on purpose if I did this. Is this something that I should not be doing?
Is there a way to log a request to have the game taken off the books so to speak if it time outs before my opponent makes a move? I apologize if this has been discussed before, I was unable to locate with a short glance any topics that covered this. Input from fellow members and even staff would be appreciated. Thank you in advance,
William
