Game drawn - insufficient material
A draw is correct here. By rule, a player can only win when they have
enough material for a checkmate. With only a king, there is no way a player could ever check mate the opponent, even with all the time in the world. So, when the player times out, the best result possible, a draw.
best 55 had a King, bishop, a pawn, plus anotherpassed pawn one step from Queening, whilst I had only the King, and no other material. I was going to be check mated, but best 55 ran out of time. Does this situation justify a "DRAW" ???
yes

Except where Articles 5.1 or one of the Articles 5.2 (a), (b) and (c) apply, if a player does not complete the prescribed number of moves in the allotted time, the game is lost by the player. However, the game is drawn, if the position is such that the opponent cannot checkmate the player`s king by any possible series of legal moves, even with the most unskilled counterplay.

The game is drawn when a position is reached from which a checkmate cannot occur by any possible series of legal moves, even with the most unskilled play. This immediately ends the game, provided that the move producing this position was legal.
Kohai, thanks for your feedback. Please have a word with best55. He concurred.
AnthonyCG, I am not going for a cheap win, and never will. The great Steinitz once wrote, "A win by an unsound combination, however showy, fills me with artistic horror ", But, on the contrary, if you agree with Tartakover, who once remarked, " the mistakes are all there, waiting to be made ".Chess is a gentlemen's game. Lets keep it that way.
Mmm hmm. Because running your king in circles despite the fact that you cannot possibly win is very manly indeed...
no need to keep attacking the guy. he already said he was waiting for the checkmate and does not like the fact that the opponent only got a draw. the rule has been clarified now.
On 08-04-2010 at about 0300 hrs (Singapore time) I was having a game with best55, when the system declared it was a "DRAW". My King was not under check, and also was not in a stale mate position. I noticed that my fellow chess enthusiast had ran out of time.I would appreciate very much if the staff of Chess. com.,could enlighten me. Thank you.
