Changing my picture

I've noticed a lot of people with some pretty cool avatars.  Some people seem to change their picture on a regular basis.  I just recently decided to switch my picture up for a little variety, so I clicked on the "change my picture" link, and uploaded a new photo to my profile.

Now when I click on "My Home" it shows the new picture in the corner where the old one used to be, but on EVERY other page, it is still showing my old picture.  When I click on "view my public profile," I see the old picture.  When I post in the forums, it is my old picture next to my name.  When I'm looking at my list of games, it has my old picture next to my name.  On all my tournament pairing pages, and player lists, it still has my old picture displayed.  I've tried changing it many times now, always with the same result.  The new picture only appears on "my home" page and the "edit my personal settings" page where I can upload a new photo,  but it shows that I already have.

Am I doing something wrong?  Or is there a new hiccup in the system?  Everyone else seems to change their picture without incident, but I am currently unable to do so.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank You.

That is what happened to my friend, and he waited a couple of days and it fixed!

You should try using the "Control R" keys to do a hard refresh on the page where you should be seeing the updated image as this should correct the issue.

Patzer, I not only refreshed the pages.  I logged out, shut the computer down, rebooted, and relogged in.  So that wasn't the issue.

Rael, thank you for the note.  It worked.

To anyone else experiencing this in the future:  Hit the f5 key and all pictures update to the new one.  Thanks Rael!

That was interesting.  I just signed on with a different computer, and saw my old pictures.  I hit the f5 key on the new computer and everything was updated to the new one.  I'm guessing now that when I originally switched my picture, I was the only one who couldn't see it.  Must be a cookie thing.

The explanation is simple, your computer keeps the pictures in cache so it needs not reloading them from internet each time you see the same.

Since all those items with your name are referring to the same location, while your computer has not refreshed your cache (which is what happens when you hit F5), you see the old picture.

So this not only means that this issue has nothing to do with chess.com since it is the same with every website but also that other users will still see your old image until they refresh their cache.

Whenever you have problems like this or similar to this, clear your cache.

Thanks, man!  ... How do I clear the cache on the individual computer I'm using??  And, would you care to play a game sometime??

Cheers,

Miles D.

Nooooooooooooooooooo! Leave that avatar alone! Quick - somebody lock it down - we won't know it's you if you change it. It is still you, isn't you?

Lol.  That was posted way back when I was switching from my Modeling Head Shot to the Batman Avatar I'm using now.  Don't worry.  I won't be taking the mask off any time soon.  Wink

You have a Modelling Head? Do you Body Part Doubles for any other parts of you?

Billium248
