Chess.com rated puzzles UI question

This isn't a real issue but I personally find this irritating. Not sure what it was if there was an update or something and I'm not sure if anyone noticed this but I just noticed this yesterday.

Know how when you do custom puzzles it says "Correct" with the number of crowns on top? Well in rated puzzles now it's no longer saying "Correct" or "Incorrect" on the side like it used to? Maybe I got so used to that visual indicator and it feels so weird without it.

Noticed a similar thing in game review when I click on lets say an inaccuracy or miss for example it wouldn't say it on the coach bubble at all. Just have to check the symbol for that specific move on the board and go off that. I remember before it didn't just say what the type of error was but there was some type of tooltip if I'm not mistaken and as a result I think it's lost information.

I can analyze fine without it. Just made things more convenient and made things look more polished and easier to find. Now it looks broken.

Anyone notice this or anything about it? Tried searching for topics on this and couldn't find anything. Was just checking to make sure I didn't make the same topic already and to see if my question was already answered. Thanks!

Hey @noimnotthere 👋

Yep, you’re not imagining it. I’ve noticed the same kind of “missing label” behaviour in a couple of spots, and it feels like a UI change (or a partial rollout) rather than you doing anything wrong. A few things that might explain it, and a couple of quick checks you can try:

A/B testing or gradual UI rollout: Chess.com often tests interface tweaks with a percentage of users. Sometimes the “Correct/Incorrect” text gets removed in favour of cleaner visuals, but it can definitely feel like something is broken when you’re used to that instant confirmation.

Device or view differences: The labels can show on one platform but not another. For example, it might still show on desktop but not mobile, or vice versa, depending on the current build.

Zoom or compact layout: If your browser zoom is above 100% (or you’re on a smaller screen), some UI elements get hidden first. Dropping Zoom back to 100% can bring the text back, if it’s still there but just not rendering.

Cache or extension weirdness: Even if it’s not an extension “bug”, ad blockers and privacy extensions sometimes block UI scripts or tooltips. A quick test in an incognito window (with extensions disabled) can confirm whether it’s a site change or something local.

For the puzzles specifically, I’d try this quick checklist:

1. Refresh and test in another browser (Chrome vs Firefox vs Edge).

2. Try incognito/private mode.

3. Clear cache for Chess.com only (if you know how), or just log out and back in.

4. Check if it happens on both Rated Puzzles and Custom Puzzles in the same session.

For Game Review, what you described sounds similar: the coach bubble sometimes shows the move category, sometimes it only shows the symbol, and expects you to infer it. If they removed the tooltip text, that’s a genuine usability downgrade for quick scanning, even if the information technically still exists.

If it still looks “broken” after those checks, it’s worth posting this as a Site Feedback style report too, because it’s exactly the kind of small UI regression that is easy to miss internally but annoys real users fast. If you do that, include:

device (mobile/desktop), browser,

whether it happens in incognito, and ideally, a screenshot of the missing labels.

You’re definitely not alone on this one; it’s the kind of tiny change that makes the whole page feel less polished.
