If some people are cheating, report them. Personally, i just don't care. I think that the majority is not cheating because the satisfaction that a cheater can get is very limited. I might lose a game to a cheater but how will i know. Suspecting people is just a loss of energy.

Would you like to link to one of your games where you felt the other player cheated so we can have a look?

That would be a public accusation and I think that they are not tolerated here. If you show a game, please no names.

alexlaw: at the beginning, that problem worried me, I was even member of the group interested in that. I reported one or two players because I had some suspicion. Nothing happened. Maybe it was a case of me playing badly (not so surprizing) and them finding all the moves (even a blind chicken finds some corn once in a while). And then I noticed that an opponent where I had no suspicion was banned. Now, thinking about him, he played quite strongly. I had no suspicion because one of my 2 games was quite good, even though I eventually blundered. (he offered a draw at some point).

Trying to find out whether somebody cheats or not is a bit more complicated than what you said. I would say, it is almost a science in itself. Time is of course an element to consider. I know that some people have developed softwares for cheaters detection.

That's better this way.

The software controls, an administrator checks and punishes and I can play chess.

They don't like like cheating to me.

The third game had strange moves like moving the knight back and forth in the opening that a computer would never play.

In the first game I doubt a computer would give up the exchange like that.

if a player cheats at 1200 well they are bad cheaters

post the games you think people 'cheated' you in and you will probably find it was your mistake more often than not. I have had people accuse me of cheating after I beat them, funny how that works to me. I won Im a cheat, they win its because they are genius...? anyway. at 1200 there are bigger problems to face than a player using a computer to beat you. There are plenty of people who dont cheat focus on them. and improve your games. Worrying about if someone is cheating is just going to drive you insane and cause you to lose focus on the real issue, improveing YOUR game.

He just posted the games Tony and I find it hard to believe those people were cheating, even with a cursory glance.

I only looked at the first one, but it seems to me that you eventually lost despite a material advantage because of careless play - blundering away your initial superiority and then the game. Btw the other guy heavily blundered too so I see no reason why you should have been cheated out of a win here.

Infact the thread should probably be removed because he's naming and shaming people who seem to be playing fairly.

Im not calling out people for cheating. I just need to know how I could improve my game. That's all. If no one helps me out, well then Im forced to resign from chess.com forever.

well before that lets look at the truth and maybe people will start to understand that they are jumping to conclusions because they lost due to playing bad moves not because someone cheated

Game one: poorly played in the opening with no real logic behind the moves a4-a5 was just a hack attempt and some very basic tactics missed no way this was computer assisted play. The final part got cut off but white finally figured out a mate but missed some quicker wins with Qa8 and Rc8# ideas

The last game

you listed is poorly played in the opening by both sides., you miss a lot of simple captures to win a piece. you trade all your pieces off and are entirely outplayed due to a lack of understanding of weak squares and then finally trading off into a dead lost endgame after move 42 your just lost. there is zero cheating going on you just didnt play as well as your opponent and missed a lot of chances to win or at least put up a fight

Hard to tell what you are looking for. In your OP you mentioned being frustrated by cheaters crushing you. If you are really interested in improving your game, I would make the following suggestions:

First, take the advice offered several times above, don't worry about cheaters. Enjoy your games and learn from them. Cheaters will eventually be caught.

Secondly, look into chess.com's study plans. They provide an excellent program for beginners and up to improve their game.

If you can afford it, think about becoming a paying member of chess.com. It really is a fairly inexpensive way to access many tools and programs to help you improve.

One final point on cheaters, I personally don't worry about them. When I lose a game, I analyze it for my mistakes. No matter how my opponent won the game, I use it for an opportunity to improve that I didn't have before.

Good luck.

I understand how you feel, I actually thought of doing a few weeks ago myself. What I can say is, if you enjoy the game, keep playing it. There are trolls anywhere you go, but there is a wonderful chess community where people help each other with constructive critisicm. Its just hard to find sometimes. If you dont do OTB much, find a close chess club. I played only online, and i just started playing OTB, which is so much more fun than onmline

But trolls make the forums so much more fun...
