You have a good heart, Ronald!  You just keep being you.

I tried that at court, but it did not end well.

So If I were you, I'd just laugh it off, 99% of the time it's nothing but hot air and an ego at the keyboard. Takes a real nutcase to carry out an internet threat.

A good reason not to be making enemies on the internet everywhere you go.  After a few hundred, you are eventually starting to play Russian roulette with your wellbeing and peace of mind.  Even if someone doesn't physically harm you, they can make your life miserable from afar in many, many ways if they find out who you are.  A few things I have heard of:

- Going to the US Post Office website and putting your mail on hold for "vacation" for 90 days

- Shutting off various utilities, your newspaper, etc.

- Posting your contact info on the most deviant porn site forum available with a "come hither" message on your behalf

- Posting your address and a "come take all my stuff I'm giving it away free" message on Craigslist

- Posting dating profiles that are less than flattering, or seeking partners you might not have an interest in hearing from

- Calling local animal control and reporting that you are abusing your pets

- Calling the local police, giving them your neighbor's name, and reporting that you are doing drug deals out of your house

- Subscribing you to every marketing spam service they can find

That's just a few of the easier ones.

The best way to defend oneself online is not to be too much of an a-hole to begin with and thus avoid drawing the ire and fixation of the aforementioned nutcases...it seems so simple, yet, so many just don't get it.

Or better yet, don't give any personal information on the internet that could reach people you don't know, use a junk email adress when subscribing to dubious websites, etc.

I'm already assuming all that ;).  That doesn't mean that a dedicated and reasonably smart person might not be able to discern someone's identity given enough time anyway, just based on tidbits of information (revealed or implied) accumulated over a long period.

Sounds like the judge was a son of a gun.

(Did I just say that ?....omg....Embarassed )

"Compromise": you are allowed to have one or more guns but you must lock them, and separately from the ammunition.

It's not a "compromise solution".  It's something that has been done by pragmatic owners of firearms since the advent of handguns.

Well, I've no real data on that, but I know my family has practiced your "compromise solution" for, at least, four generations.

This solution works for someone who likes guns, and takes them from time to time to go hunting or to show their friends.

It fails utterly for someone who wishes to use it for self-defense.

Anyone who keeps a gun "to show their friends" ought not to have a gun.  I don't understand the self-defense argument about keeping firearms in the home.  If somebody is coming through the front door to kill you, sneak out the back.

  Not very manly.

It is not a matter of being "manly."  It is a matter of self-defense, which is a natural right.

I support "stand your ground" laws, and wish more states had them.  By far and away, most home invaders are men, and a pump-action 12-gauge levels the playing field immediately.

I get 1-2 threats/obsenities each week. Today I got one from 'enoughofu'....Sadly, CC wouldn't let me read it....and subsequently closed this person's account.

So, Helloooooo there - The Member Formally Known as 'enoughofu'. Enjoy your new account and all its benefits !

"enoughofu" probably threatened others too.  I'm sorry you get crap like that in messages here.

I agree.  It is insanity to say that one may not defend his ground, but must run away to keep from hurting his assailant.

Really classy how you don't want people to presume to know you after your long rant making all sorts of presumtions about me.

You're just a blow hard internet tough guy.

And you are apparently some internet nerd, naive about reality and afraid of "the boogie man" (anyone who owns a gun, because you probably aren't old enough to own one yourself.) Blow on that smart guy.

You only outline your own ignorance when you pretend you know a person over the internet in intimate detail and say my statement of being proactive is false. Yes, "I like guns", but I'm also PROACTIVE in the defense of my home. You don't know me.

I lived in Oregon, and don't know why you would need a gun in every room, as it is hardly dangerous. Now then, if you lived in say, Chicago, that's another story.

I don't "need them" in every room, I just have enough to afford me the ability to have them strategically placed, with the extras in my bedroom. I don't have children in my home, so I don't have to worry about locking them up. And if I'm not home and someone were to break in, bad news - My 2 dogs would rip them apart before they gained two steps. They, too, are trained in the art of defending one's home. I also live in a remote area where my neighbors watch out for one another, so that's another way to defend my home. Unfortunately, tree hugger hippy types who have no idea who I am are happy to hop on this thread and label me a nutcase. Their mistake... They are the sort of people you read about in newspapers, victims of home invasion who think guns are evil, until one is pointed at them and they, for that split second, wish they hadn't been such naive fools and had one to protect themselves as the home invader puts that 4lb pull on his throw-away pistol that he stole in a previous robbery.

Oh and one other thing, I live in the Emerald Triangle, and given that I've appeared on national TV ripping up marijuana plants that mexican cartels plant in the local forests, yeah, I have reason to take extra precautions. They wouldn't hesitate to kill me out in the forest, and they go so far as to plant booby traps in the plants (homemade explosives attached to a trip wire which is tied to the root of the plant), or even, in the most recent and bizarre twist, capture rattlesnakes, cut off their rattles, and tie them to trees to bite us when we enter these grow sites, typically located on national forest property. If they knew my identity or that of my team that goes in and rips up their plants, it is quite plausible that they would attempt to get revenge. To me it's naive not to have a gun - You never know when, even on a nice calm Sunday hike in the forest, that you'll walk into a cartel grow. They wouldn't think twice about shooting you and burying you, becoming just another missing person statistic. Watch the re-runs of the show "Weed Country" on Discovery Channel. I'm one of the guys in camo [on the law enforcement side]. I've seen the dangers, I know what I am talking about, and my detractors here on this thread are simply naive fools who think the world is nothing but rainbows and butterflies.

Homes are broken into every single day, in almost every city in the country. People are killed every single day when, if they had a means to protect themselves, they would likely still be alive. Rainbows and butterflies isn't reality - a drug addled criminal willing to kill you for some jewelery and your wallet is.

Remember your tutorial to me on hypothermia ?....Once again, TY.

I visited the emerald /\ Thanksgiving weekend a few years ago (didn't know it was called that until now). My relatives and I drove all a'O there !....We saw Paul and Blue Babe, elk herds, the Redwoods....it was unforgettable. Then we drove the Trinity Forest road (161 ?) to Redding then up to Mount Shasta. It's one of the most beautiful and scenic places on the Mainland. Oh !....Kinda funny there's a town called Weed....Smile....

A 12 gauge is not an ideal "home defense" weapon.  Even if you hit your target, there's a pretty good chance projectiles will pass through walls.  A short-barelled .410 with a buckshot load is much better.

If "manliness" enters your calculations for whether or not you should run or kill another human being, you shouldn't own a gun.  There isn't much in this world that's more cowardly than shooting another human being.

Don't presume to know me.  Cool

An easier way to stop these drug grows in national forests would be to legalize marijuana and stop the war on drugs.  Sounds a lot more rational that walking around armed expecting a shoot out any second.

It's safer and more resonable just hand over your wallet if you're jacked.  I've lived in some rough neighborhoods, I've been robbed, friends of mine have been robbed, neighbors have had their homes invaded.  No one died.  No one was raped.  They just lost a few dollars.  Myself, I used to carry a dummy wallet with a few token dollars and an expired credit card and old ID.  But that doesn't fit in to a Dirty Harry fantasy.

The_Ghostess_Lola

Down here there are signs posted on people's acreaged land like "Trespassing Livestock Will Be Shot"....so, if you have grazing goats or cows ?....take care of them or someone else will !

I think you've hit the nail on the head with that one.  Some folks watch way too much T.V. and mistake Portland for Beirut.
