I got kicked (i.e., banned) from Chess.com...

It's true.  After years and thousands of games on this great web Chess.com, I was kicked out today.  When I try to log back in to play a game, I get a message that says I am kicked out.

This has actually been a big mistake and a little insulting.  I was enjoying a game with a fellow friend.  We were having friendly banter one-uping each other.  He made a sly move during the game when I blundered, and I wrote something an obscenity.  Something along the lines of, "oh d...., you f------er."  I didn't actually write those exact words, but it was something along those lines.  There was no intention of animosity, and he knows it.  He even tried to reach out, on my behalf to the moderators, but no answer yet.

Why is there such a strong penalizing stance on this?  After many thousands of games, I get booted forever because of a non-issue that wasn't ever insultatory?  Should there not be a warning message first during gameplay that certain words or phrases are off-limits, and then the next violation is a boot?  Is there even  a way for me to get back in the good graces of this place and get back online playing games again?

Martin_Stahl

You're not booted forever. The auto-mod will normally boot for 30 or 60 minutes.

And, normally there is a warning but sometimes an automatic boot happens, for exceptional cases (though I don't know what those exceptional cases are ).

My comments get deleted when I praise other playing sites like [advertising removed - MOD]. I recommend everyone go there and try it out. However, chess.com doesn't like that and these type of comments get censored.

We use to give trophies for thatSealed

Why should the site allow advertising for other sites? If you don't like it here then that is one thing. Actively using a site owned by someone else to try and promote another competitor site and you're surprised you get censored?

Then, to continue doing it, after having previous posts deleted? You risk more than just a post or topic deletion.

@Martin-Stahl, Well, the forums were talking about how chess.com playing interface wasn't too their taste. They kept complaining that they hated plaing on chess.com so I recommended they play elsewhere such as [advertising removed - MOD]. It was relevant to the topic.

Martin_Stahl

What is relevant is saying that there are other sites. So far in this topic you have posted a specific site twice. I understand not liking something but one can't be surprised when mentioning other specific sites to try and get people to play there and then having your posts removed.

breaker90

Sure, I understand their point of view but I don't post anything on here with their point of view in mind. I post to share thoughts and information about anything chess-related to other people. I've heard so many people complain about playing on chess.com (personally I don't care for it - I enjoy other parts of chess.com but not playing on here) that people really should check out other sites. Many people haven't heard of [advertising removed - MOD], which is relatively new, and so I suggested it. I feel that chess.com censors too much on their site and it extends beyond talking about other chess sites and vulgar banter between two friends (which is what happened with the OP).

I just got back online.  If it weren't for my friend messaging a mod about this entire wrongful banning, I don't know if I would be on here.

I agree with the others.  I appreciate and like this site, but the iron-fisted banning over trivial stuff has to go.

Martin_Stahl

You didn't need mod intervention. It automatically would have let you back in.

That said, people that feel the need to curse, should show a little restraint and recognize that there is a filter here. Then, just say it verbally or type something that isn't filtered, without trying to bypass it which might be filtered anyway.

AlCzervik

is that a pic of a mormon?!?

Accocaramon

this site sucks when moderating typical banter... anyone who's not up for a chat can simply turn their chat off... What're people going to discuss in a game: oh, hi there stranger! thank you for checkmating me... let's have another go... nah, imma be all out of my reprobate mind,.. don't you dare run after winning 1 game you little piece of ish

fuzzbug

Don't like it? Leave.

You won't be missed.

Accocaramon

fuzzbug is one douche that thinks not liking something means you've got leave...

Years ago when I started on this site I disabled the chat function that you can use during games. However now I can not figure out how to turn it back on. Advise me please!
