Exact same thing happend to me. It's a stupid scprit some looser wrote to try and sell his anti virus garbage. I'm sure it isn't the Chess.com people, just bad advertising servers.
Spread The Word About These Virus Websites.

Well, it is kind of worrying that two people from chess.com have had the exact same thing, be careful for the moment Max_B, hopefully someone will talk to you shortly.

A script from advertising server? I'd like to hear what chess.com will say about this.
Right now Im still paranoid as ever. I really want to know the real source of these attacks so we can move forward for a solution.
@ chess_calum: Thank you very much for giving me a hand spreading the word. You are a very good man.

Its fine, not my go in any games, so why not help around.. why not help around weather it IS my go in any games. Nah, happy to help.

these are not coming from us. it is possible that your computer is infected already and these infection scripts hijack ad code from chess.com and replace with their own.
again, we work with only KNOWN, GOOD ad providers. if you are getting something else, i strongly recommend you clean your computer immediately.

I run Firefox with the AdBlocker addon running. I see no ads on chess.com because of this, so you might want to try changing your browsers. IE has security holes you can drive a tank through and a lot of software is designed to exploit them.
But yeah, thanks for the heads-up. It is appreciated.

Exact same thing happened to me but it wasn't from clicking a chess.com link, I clicked on an innocuous looking image link (while trying to find out what Tal Shaked is up to) and got that same virus/virus warning. My anti-virus program seems to have taken care of it. Seems like it is just an aggressive anti-virus sales scam.

Erik, do you mind answering why the people are getting it from chess.com and not anywhere else? I am glad I havent got it yet!

can somebody paste a screenshot of the warnings or image link or....? i'm hearing stories, but i need something i can look at to understand. please paste a screenshot. thanks!!

Here is the generated dialogue box with a FAKE VIRUS SCAN:
My PC is relatively new with Norton Internet Security 2009 eversince. It runs auto scan and updates almost everyday when its on standby mode while I leave it for a break/coffee.
I have been browsing many websites in a day, but only on chess.com I have encountered 3 attacks on different occasions. It is only from chess.com I am forwarded to malicous website(s) below:
cheapreadweb.com
scaninternetworld.com
I have a pop-up blocker but allowed pop-ups from chess.com (because you cant publish image and games with pop-ups blocked). But the attacks were mostly directing me to the said malicious websites on the same window on automatic instance.
Eversince the attacks I have run full system scans (long hours) with both Norton and Spybot and both of them did not show any malware or virus problem. Therefore I speculate that the bad script is running from the chess.com website.
Thank you for attending to this issue, Erik. Let us know how more we can assist you to resolve these threats.

can you post a full screenshot of when that comes up and also the URL that it is pointing to?
Sorry Erik the full screen shot is not possible now because I have already blocked the websites. However you might want to test it yourself to visit the following websites and see how your antivirus/malware protection will hold up.
Basically I was automatically forwarded to the sites above just browsing chess.com webpages on different occassions. When I get forwarded, it uses the same window. Upon arrival to the sites above, the bogus dialogue box pops-up instantaneously (generated by their web script). There might be a script somewhere on your webpages that forwards me to these malicious websites.

Also, would appreciate recommendations of other better (if any) cleaner softwares...
Malwarebytes, And it's a free download.

Just hapened again. It tried to download a file called "Install.exe" Here's the link. I tried to get a screen shot of the fake My computer web page, but it must be programed to not allow it. Well, hopefully back to my game.

This needs to be spread around:
I would like to call the attention of chess.com business operators to give feedback about this report/enquiry of mine.
To the one reading right now, BEWARE. DO NOT TRY TO VISIT THE LINKS BELOW. THEY WILL ATTACK YOUR PC WITH MALWARES OR VIRUSES!
While playing an online game here, suddenly I was forwarded to the URL below :
(Do not visit it! It will try to infect your PC with malware)
[removed offensive language]
Very shortly after, a new dialogue box pops up from the website saying, "Your PC is found infected with viruses. Press OK to start free scan to clean up..." ---DONT BE FOOLED! DONT PRESS OK BUTTON! NOR THE CANCEL BUTTON! You should ignore this by closing the [removed offensive language] dialogue box. Otherwise you have just given the website the access to download viruses to your PC!
Thank goodness I have an anti-virus software already installed in my PC, and it warned me about the attack attempt. But to be really sure the didn't actually infected my PC I ran a whole sytem scan. It took long hours last night to finish and thankfully nothing was infected. Relieved I call it a night after adding the bastard website to my blocklisted sites in my browser.
This afternoon, went back here at chess.com, read a few article then went straight to playing my online games. And guess what! It happened again! But this time its from another bastard website below:
(Do not visit it! It will try to infect your PC with malware)
[removed offensive language]
So now, can chess.com officials explain this occurences please. I have noticed you have ads here and there, especially those ones that pop up new windows. I can understand your need to have revenues but if you cannot control ads (or webpages we are forwarded to) that will attack our PC's, we would rather appreciate if you can just hold off such advertisements or applications that lead to PC attacks.
Would really appreciate an immediate investigation of the matter and regular posting of the progress and actions you will take on to get rid of these attacks.
Also to my fellow members, who have read this. Please let everybody know about my experience. There maybe others out there who had the same experience, and may be encouraged to voice out too. In that way, we can really know the real facts of these attacks. Let's also warn the others.
Thank you very much.
