on a fiberoptic in california and disconnect every night - pls fix
The app keeps "disconnecting" while playing

This happens so often to me that I am looking for an alternative - I’m on iOS and have great 5g and wifi coverage when they happen. If someone else has this please propose an alternative site
does this problem happen only to higher ranking players say 1000 and up ?? iam a low level grunt player in the bottom but i have never had a d/c affect the game -- the player leaves leaving me holding the bag tell the game time outs then i get the win-- does this happen on different games ?? i only play 3 min. games only right now - wonder if others have the same problem as you .
think if these people where trying to cheat this way -- the mods would have picked up on it a while ago -----then maybe its new phenome - and others should look out for it

I experienced this issue few months ago and I even not renewed my subscription for few months but I came back as I like all the other features of the site.
I gave an explanation from a software engineer point of view on this thread .
That's funny because since I came back I never experienced this issue since then.
It just happened and restarted by the time of this writing. I play with Chrome browser.
it's not an ISP issue, it's the back end servers that cannot keep with the load, I am pretty sure.
My connection is very stable, good bandwith (I have TV channels with internet )
I rarely play on sundays but rather during the day , that would explain why I avoided rush hours so far..
That would be nice to know the current concurrent players and games going on. we could relate those numbers with the issue. The site gives cumulative players for the day, not instant players.

Today is a bust. The site is close to broken. https://www.chess.com/forum/view/site-feedback/site-crashed-but

Play shows how many are on at the time, not cumulative for the day.
But there were some issues today and they ended up restarting the live server.

if it's instant figure, doesn't it mean each player is playing on average 70 games at a time ? I don't think so.
I don't kknow where you get your screen capture but "today" is missing . I have it in french an english.
Anyway , that does not invalidate the fact that peak load is not well managed.
I observed that there a messages now that tells when the service is planned to be restarted and lets the end user decide whether to start a game or not knowing that. That's poor but at least we know.
That would be also nice to inform people that service is under pressure in order to let them decide to engage in a game or not. It's better to be frustrated not to enter a game than be cut off during a game.
Restarting a service is so indicative of how bad the solution design is . And please don't tell us its' about budget. I understand big money is at stake on chess.com. Shall we raise that issue to Magnus ?!

The number of games is cumulative, not the number of players.
As to the design of the back-end playing services, my understanding is that it's basically the same as when the site started offering live games but has had a lot of growth and updates through the years. It's a monolithic process and when it needs to have new code promoted, it has to be restarted. Or if there's are major issues, the same thing.
It's also my understanding, that a more distributed process is being worked on and I would assume that will allow more graceful updates, but don't know that for a fact.
When there are emergent issues, staff work the issue and I'm certain they are working towards minimizing how often they happen. They also start working on it as soon as they see issues.

Dev Web here too. I don't have the issue anymore but at this time, I had the issue on two browsers (chrome & FF) and two computers. I tried to look at requests and the only thing I found was issues with websockets, during peak AND off hours. there definitely was an issue on server-side but I never had the issue for months now
At the time I experienced the issue (I rarely do now) - it seemed like there was a strong correlation between players making a blundering move or being forced to play an uncomfortable position and the disconnects. So I raised it with the site - to be fair - they opened an excellent line of communication with me which is to be commended and the issue stopped occurring. I never understood why it was happening but it seemed to be happening often enough at crucial turning points in games to not be coincidental. But I have to say that this no longer occurs in games I’m playing to any level that would be statistically significant. Kudos to the site for its interactions with me about this. Cheating is never going to go away from online chess - it is what it is - I am an amateur low level player so there would never be sufficient motivation for anyone to really cheat against me but it was a thing for a while I’m sure. Great site which is a part of my online life now so I’m very grateful. Great game - wish I was a better player but.. can’t have everything.

the same stupid problem with an excellent wifi connection, i think it's the web site's problem for some regions
Fair enough. Thanks for taking the time. J
