Very angry, because of false information I lost rating points.

i agree that it's a bit confusing--especially for non-fluent english speakers.  i once withdrew from a tournament that i didn't know had started (my own fault, i wasn't paying attention) and i lost all my games.  it was a tough lesson.  i feel for this guy.  it sucks.

I'm not sure why the original poster is complaining.  His rating will come back after a few more games.  He has only played 20 or so games (and that includes the losses kept by the staff).  I'm not sure what the big deal is.  It will all work out in the wash, as they say.

you're perfect

Kernicterus

actually with so few games, the rating must have felt like a very steep drop to him.  beside the point.  His original post is funny though!

One of the cheapest "tough" lessons a person can ever recieve.

If losing rating points, which essentially mean nothing, is a real loss worth whining about in a life, then I am Jonas Gumby.

Of course, complaining about someone whining about it must be really fulfilling. It's good that your life is so complete.

Shakje.  Personally I feel that such people should be told to behave and to stop the self-pity party.  I thought his original post was just funny until they actually gave him the points back.  It's like a kid throwing a tantrum and being appeased with candy.

Like richie said, it's a number..it isn't as if that number is even going to affect you, and it's not something that happens every day. Best case scenario, someone who cares about his rating got some points back that he lost because he misread something and made a genuine mistake, worse case scenario someone lied to get a number changed on a database somewhere. It doesn't make a whole lot of difference either way to you or to me.

What I can't stand are self-righteous people mouthing off. Richie appears to like the sound of his voice far too much. I'm also 5 days without smoking which may have some bearing on irritation levels.

Hey....I hit "submit move" button and and lost my queen the following move.  There isn't anything written anywhere that said that would lose my game shortly there-after.  Can I please have my ratings points back?  Tongue out

PS....It was more than just ONE game too..... :)

Well, I have more of a claim even than that.  I play touch move and I had a MOUSE SLIP!  Now that's really not fair!  I want my points back too.  If we had been more agreeable, Skeptic might have used his strings with the Chess.com people to get us our points back.  :(

Kernicterus

HotFlow is right.  Too polite.  We need to huff and puff like the original poster.

Let me go further:

It is the sense of entitlement and willingness to fight and need special attention over something that has actualy little to zero value, coupled with an immature attitude that somehow you have been the subject of some extreme prejudice or great universal injustice that will have some long term consequence or have suffered some aggregious injury.

Like fighting over McNuggets.

I'd fight to death over McNuggets... lol Cool

I've agreed with pretty much everything you've said on this site so far, but I must say that what you feel as insignificant may not be so for someone else.

Yes, the poster's tone may have been more than a bit whiny, but as a diamond member he obviously takes his chess seriously and does have the right to voice his concerns.

Respectfully, why do you keep posting here if you don't feel this whole issue is a problem? That could be viewed as an unnecessary effort for something that is not going to help change the world or anything in any way..

Just further illustrates that people are always looking at their rating as points, rather than as a measure of their skill level.  I can't say this enough:  your true rating is never perfectly reflected by the number assigned to it.  It will go up or down depending on whether you win or lose, and the best that the formula can do is an approximation.  The best way to handle it is to not obsess too much over rating, and just to play your best game all the time.

If you really think that you're as good as "N", then you will be back at "N" in no time.

Just as a curious sidenote - World of Warcraft recently moved away from a strict Glicko/Elo to something that resembles a point system.  I guess that the players there weren't mature enough to figure out skill-based ratings either.  Tongue out

Staff, come and tell me what are you going to do with this!

I'm very confused! (Upset, angry, what ever).

Relax, its just a number. If you think of chess that seriously go to a chess club and try to get an official ELO rating by participating to tournaments. Stop doing like a child for a couple of points. The rules are just fine.

Summer_Sea_Frog

I had a problem just like this a while back, I could not submit my moves(I don't know why) so I lost all my games. I asked chess.com to put my rating and timeout to their former position but they said they couldn't. I didn't really care about my rating that much I it is easy to go up just win a couple of games but my timeout was what I really wanted. It is very hard to lower.

Goatllama

The ratings THE RATINGS!!!!! Yell

ooooooOOOOOOOOOoooooooohSurprised

EinsteinFan1879

I just read through the entire post and now want that ten minutes of my life back. There was nothing in the language at the beginning of the post that would have led me to believe that this would be a waste of my time and now I am certain I have been cheated.

The author should feel upset about forfeiting points.  Although rating points aren't that important to some, it still reflects yourself as a player here.  Rating points are fun because you compete with something riding on games.  If there were no points than how would you ever know an opponents RELATIVE skill level?  Then people would have no problem losing or neglecting games.

Points are important here.

kissinger

this post is like so totally irrelevant and meaningless in the scheme of things.....are you a religious person??? have you ever thought of asking God for guidance here????  just thinking outloud

I'm probably wrong, you usually seem to be right about most stuff, but please tell me why if I am..

Toadofsky

I fell victim to the same thing and lost hundreds of rating points.  I've since regained the points, but scored upsets against 1500-1800s along the way which my opponents weren't too thrilled about.
