Vulgar and offensive language

I was recently playing against user [username removed; send ticket to support as per the link below - mod]. He exhibits the typical vulgar and bullying behavior that often deters me from playing on this site (as you cannot report people for use of inappropriate language). What can you do in a situation like? Is there a way to report such a player who simply logs on to troll other players and say the worst things he can think of?

Who says you can't report people?  Not picking on you specifically, but there is a whole world of information available in the Help & Support section (down by the green pawn) that folks just don't seem to be aware of.  Don't be afraid to go around the site and click on stuff.  You won't break anything.  Anyway here's an article that specifically asks you to report them.  Screen shots help...

this website is full of nasty, hostile people!  why should i pay for premium membership when the staff lets all this abuse go on?

this is beyond just reporting people, I'd have to report a hunderd people to even start to put a dent in the problem!  this website is OVERWHELEMD by nasty, horrible people!

This is part of the reason i cancelled by diamond membership.  I cvant see giving money to a site that doesnt/cant control its members.

I think they do what they can. It's a balancing act between making users feel welcome by giving them the run of the place and restricting them to prevent things like CaB and his little boyfriend.

One thing I would like to see implemented that I think could help is allowing you to restrict your opponent searches to people with PAID (not trial) memberships.

At least then, if someone gets banned, they lose their money.

I agree chess.com does what it can, to a certain extent.  I think what they should do is require a credit card for membership (even free members) that way when someone goes all WvB, and they close the account, they cant use the same card.  Yes they will use a different CC, but will eventually run out of them.

I'm getting a lot out of this site, but I have had two experiences with abusive "c'mon hurry" up comments in live games (including where the language from him turned into abusive profanity) and I've only been here 8 months.   I've made the mistake of responding and that's just a bad move.  You get sucked in to their level.  From now on I'll just shut up and report them.   I think it must be pretty common.  Nothing is perfect, including chess sites.
