[THREADJACK ATTEMPT ABANDONED]
Or the threadjack has been threadjacked.
hey KillaNinja I think you look for reason to get upset, and surprice, surprice , you find them:). gg.gg.gg.gg.gg.gg.gg.gg.gg.
Probably best not to correct what other people are saying, without reading very carefully
I suppose the same could be said for putting words in someone's mouth. Aside from one being a misunderstanding and the other deliberate, they're not all that different....
I'll be sure to include the proper variables if we should ever play against each other.
E.g. "gg - but not like you think! The GOOD gg, not the insult type gg, I'm not like that. Plus I like salads and I will never try to make bunny cry ever again, promise. Have a nice day. Sorry."
Seriously, I dont use internet jargon, if I can help it. You figure out why.

im going to use that anytime i play live chess

It amazes me how many people over think "gg" Its nothing more then a kind gesture of politeness.
Says you.
I can't believe this thread is still kicking.
most sensible comment iv heard in a while

It's stunning! 396 comments! Oh, wait, I forgot about the "Word Association" thread! Yeah, this thread seems to have just started
Thanx for the game is nice neutral phrase that shouldn`t offend anyone..i think..
This runs into the same problem again.
For e.g. Saying "Thanks for the game", if you're the winner could be interpreted as, "Thanks for the win....loser!" lol
I challenge you to find anything that can't be construed as offensive with the right inflection and tone.
I can't help other peoples' oversensitivity, so I'm not going waste my energy trying to walk on eggshells around it.
This thread reads like a similar thread: "GMs, IMs are elitists"

I pretty much agree with FirebrandX. It's like in the movie Bad News Bears when the opposing team rubs it in with a parting gg chant to the Bears. More recently "handshake" has been used to express respect for one's opponent in a sportsmanlike manner, win or lose.
Some years ago, I tried to come up with my own alternative to gg while playing on ICC. I thought a parting "Thnx for playing" would be perfectly innocuous. Then after hardly a week one of my opponents launched into a tirade about how arrogant I was to say such a thing.
So now I rarely say anything. It's sad there can't be some kind of parting phrase that offends no one. Would anyone object to "namaste" ?
TheGrobe, I was merely pointing out the obvious from the direction the thread has gone.
Anpu3, I suspect there will never be an ONLINE parting phrase that won't offend someone. It would seem the only way to NEVER offend, is either don't play, or always lose. lol I still think this is all silly.
I like chess, and I like people. It is not my desire to offend anyone. But if there's one thing I've learned in life, it's that no matter what I do, someone will always find something wrong with it.

I dare them to find something wrong with that statement

Losing sucks. Even when an opponent does not say anything after the game, it could still be perceived as an insult or a statement in itself.
The only solution: Don't lose.

Says a large majority of chess players. If you or others chose to over think its meaning then thats on you. Just take it for what it is.
Have you really counted the votes, and since when do you represent the global community of chess players ? "GG" is not part of any long-standing chess tradition, it started being used on the Internet as a spill-over from other Internet games.
GG it's just part of good sportsmanship like handshake.
