What if it was a bad game though ?
In this case I just say: '' Thanks for the game ! ''.
Funny but, like Goscinny's Rantanplan, everytime someone bothered to say gg to me after he had crushed me, I felt he was being generous - not arrogant...
True. Brings a sort of quiet & peaceful closure to proceedings. Dignified in comparison to the:: '' hahaha ! I crushed you dummy !! ''. All too frequently encountered on this site.
But what if by some great misforture one player "accidently" squeezes one out by "mistake"? Could the other player say "ghastly gas"?
I understand what KillaNinja is saying. The thing is, though, it's really hard to tell if it is sincere or just arrogance. Unless it is obvious, it should not be worried about.
I hate when I make mistakes early on, and my opponent just crushes me, and then they say good game. I'm like, 'no it wasn't...'
In any case, saying gg after a game is standard courtesy, and should not be misinterpited.
What about saying gg before the game is completed, a shortened version of "well NOW I'm winning so obviously I could win in my sleep... you should resign now"
Mr Ninja we all understand that you wish for your opponent to express his elation or anger by writing "hey great game Mr ninja" or "your the best Mr ninja" but most people are here to play chess not carry on conversations. If that is what you need then go to facebook. If you get owned then man up and ask for a rematch. Win lose or draw I say gg and until now Ive never heard of anyone thinking that this abbreviation was inappropriate. As far as arrogance, your comment that it took other readers three pages to understand you now thats is the definition of arrogance. GG
I never start games with people using capitals.
