gg is arrogance

I think those 8 inch floppies were even before "Wall Street," (1987), those were like the days from Reagan getting shot and the Rubix cube.
The Rubix cube was 1970s
Reagan was shot in 1981
New computers had drives for eight-inch floppies through the mid-1990s, but 3.5 inch floppies were standard by 1990.
8" floppies were exceedingly rare, even as early as the 80s. Perhaps you're thinking of 5¼" floppies which were still common into the mid-90s?
Yes. Perhaps all those years of saying that something else was eight inches has caught up with me.
TornadoC, we had a bank of Apple IIe machines in graduate school, and I wrote a lot of papers on them. But the first machine I played chess against was an IBM-clone 80386 running Chessmaster 2100.

How would you feel if someone took the time to type: "Good game I enjoyed our game of chess" would it make a differance of how it was interpreted?

Yes, even if it was a crappy game. The extra effort and expression of personal pleasure is vastly different that the lazy gg after every game. If lazy players could type three letters (thx) instead of two, they could have deprived us of the two years entertainment this thread has brought. But, then, they would need look elsewhere for our recommendations of good Scotch.

Not sure of exact dates but 8" floppy were late 60's or very early 70's and used mostly on main frames. 5-1/4 were late 70's and 3.5 were mid 80's.
Dang im getting old.

When I bought my first computer, 1989, both the 3.5 and 5.25 were available, but for reasons now forgotten, I opted for two 5.25 drives on my box. Most computers over the next several years seemed to have one of each, and by the time I retired that old computer in the mid-1990s, I seemed like a dinosaur with my 5.25 floppies.
Perhaps the 8" do correspond well with the Rubix Cube.

Watch out for those old floopy disks, I bought some (at a garage sale) and one crashed my old IBM computer.
PS, GG=good gin

Ging gang goolie goolie goolie goolie watcha,Ging gang goo, ging gang goo.Ging gang goolie goolie goolie goolie watcha,Ging gang goo, ging gang goo
Obviously inoffensive as at no point is there a double g, unless you remove the spacing - in that case terrible insult has been rendered:
Gingganggooliegooliegooliegooliewatcha,Gingganggoo,gingganggoo.Gingganggooliegooliegooliegooliewatcha,Gingganggoo,gingganggoo
Gosh, good grief, guys I am agog!

Im sorry......I dont understand why "gg" is arrogance.....I type it with good intention even if I lose the game...its all about how u interpret gg....not necessarily how the other person means it

thank you. this person is looking for something to be offended by

It's just one's own interpretation. I only say gg when I mean it. The game can be either a win or a lose for me.
I guess you don't mind seeing a gg after a game if you're emotionally leveled. And not raging if you lose while you still played a good game.
Ah, yes. ggmm goodgollymissmolly. I have always used gg online. That said, maybe Thanks for playing or Thx or Thx, friend me, may appear less arrogant. I grew up with my chess mentor insisting we all be gracious in win or loss. If angry or wish to gloat you do go someplace other than infront of your opponent.
When an opponents leave immediately after a game without ANY comment it seems rude especially if they won.
My six cents worth.
I can't believe this gg forum has gone on this long
