Live Chess, draw by repitition?

I just played a 10 minute live chess game.  I was in a bad position, but could force draw through repitition, but the game would not automatically draw.  Can you not draw by repitition in live chess?

You have to claim the draw by clicking the 'Draw' button. See "How do I claim a draw".
