I have played loads of live games at 30 minutes and not once have I encountered a player doing this in time trouble or in a losing position. Sure there are loads of disconnects and reconnections sometimes by my opponent but it will happen throughout the game both on my move and theirs so its just the connection. Dont really understand the OP anyway, why do you lose time if your opponent disconnects?

u should learn my strategy m8 by switching to different time controls. for example, with this account (I don't use any of the remaining ones - many of them are already deleted by inactivity, I think) I am playing at most one correspondence game (14 days per default, I stick to it) at any given moment, and it will be a future decision whether I am going to play live chess even once anymore. however, live chess is not that bad, m8, in longer time controls.
In any case Internet chess can be a little bit problematic bacause there is no referee. If you play 5 minutes games, someone will claim for disconnections; if you play 30 minutes games, someone will say that you play with a computer. But there are a lot of positive aspects to play here, so never mind, the most people using CHESS.COM play fair.
There is A button you can click on that will disable chat. I almost never have to use it but if someone starts A game even before they make A move and insults me I just click it and their nonsense is gone. You can do that at any time control from bullet to weeks per move. They just want to make you mad or lose your concentration. If you get mad evough to use profaninty the they paste your comment and send it to staff and you could get your account closed for that. In other words you fell for their trap. Just be cool and take it easy my friend :)
Disconnect is not a dirty trick, but simply an unfair way to play. Anyway please be aware that not all the players here have a stabil connection. In the past it happened to me that with a USB, the connection failed more times in an hour and it took 1,5 minutes to reconnect. So then I loose a lot of games, my oppenent maybe was a little bit angry with me, and then automatically after a while the system gave me a restriction in the play. But now I have a telefone connection, these technical issues are no more present. The play here is for funny, so when I'm loosing, just try to see if maybe I've some possibilities that my opponent will loose for Time. Sometimes I will win for time, sometimes I will loose. But if in a game my position is lost and probably I will be mated, it is much better for me to resign and play another game. Of course nobody is happy to loose a game, but each game is different, so maybe next game I will win with an excellent play. So don't worry: be always correct and never mind if you loose a game is normal. At the same time if someone disconnet, as you can't see him in the eyes, it is difficult to say that is a dirty trick. Never forget: this is a virtual world, the real world is another thing. Bye
