What I don't like about the profanity filter is when someone abusive finds words that get around it, and when I angrily reply I'm the one that gets punished. Of course in my situation I probably shouldn't have tried feeding the troll. People like that want you to respond.
Which is more annoying: profanity, or profanity filter?

Yes, I just ignore anybody who's actually abusive (which in my experience is rare; the vast, vast majority of opponents have been perfectly courteous).

God knows how many times I've tried (but alas! in vain) to type "f██ing f██ f██er" in live chess, and I would've gotten away with it too, if it weren't for those meddling kids. One day, if we all come together, we may one day regain our natural birthright to post content on this private company's website unfettered, and then together we shall cry out in all glory, as we raise the flag of the revolution, "f██ing f██ f██er!!!"; And perhaps some child will ask what that means, but we won't hear them over the sound of how awesome we are. The monuments to tyrants shall fall, and a new power shall rise - A power for freedom.

Your sarcasm aside, I'm not suggesting that we have any right to anything here at all; the ToS are pretty watertight and give Chess.com leeway to almost anything that's legal.
Might is right, and I'm certainly not one to whine about how "I have rights" when I clearly don't.
I'm merely making an opinion known, and wondering to what extent my opinion's shared; if indeed my view is shared more popularly than it is opposed, then it'd be just a matter of catering to the preferences of the regular customer base at large to disable the irritating profanity auto-filter.
It's my understanding that Chess.com prefers to receive feedback regarding its services than not.

I think that being reasonable people, we can resolve this using the scientific method. Therefore, I propose an experiment as follows:
The post following this one will contain profanity.
The post after that will contain profanity filter.
All readers will then submit a brain scan showing how annoyed they are by each one.
EDIT: It appears as though a moderator censored my experiment; Annoying.

Alright, that's cool; just making sure you aren't one of those guys/wanted an excuse to post a cool picture from the French Revolution.

I preferred the former :p

Profanity filters are more than stupid, they're actually hurtful to clear communication.
I see what you're trying to do there, ya rascal! Nothing gets past me! Off to prison with ye!

Which is more annoying, oil or oil filters? air or air filters? HEPA or HEPA filters? cigarettes or cigarette filters? spam or spam filters? water or water filters?

F██d that for you.

Lol wait OP,you do know that Live chat has an overly sensitive censor, yet you go ahead and say "[deleted]"? Then you cry about getting muted and warned? Wow. Just wow.
I had forgotten about it, and no, I didn't mention muting, or cry about being warned. I expressed my disapproval of the ban that my friend received without warning, actually.
I'd vote the latter.
In a friendly game with a friendly friend... No, not even that, in the post-mortem, in fact, so anyone or anything with a tiny bit of ability to notice context can note the friendliness, I played a refutation of a certain move, and typed "What now, b****?". Got the auto-warning, rolled my eyes, and mentioned this to her in Skype.
Amused, she wanted to try it to see the warning, and typed "f*** f***ing f***er", and rather than a warning got automatically kicked. Now we can't play for (presumably) half an hour. And weren't able to finish our post-mortem, at that.
Thanks, Chess.com. Way to thank people who play here a lot, have premium memberships, have referred plenty of other people, etc, and conduct themselves in a friendly manner.
So... I'd say that I see about as many complaints here about the auto-profanity filter as I do about profanity, probably more.
And... People survive in-context profanity here in the boards, so we'd probably survive it on the live chess servers, too.
Edit: Moderator edited my post to change swearing for "[deleted]". I re-edited it to provide censored forms of words that at least indicate what was there.
