Due to a medical procedure, West Orange Chess Club President John Hagerty will be taking a temporary leave of absence from club duties at least through the end of March. The prognosis for recovery is believed to be good as it is a one day surgery.
In the meantime, Lev Zilbermintz (who is one of the two WOCC Vice Presidents) will be "in charge" as the President Pro Tem and President Hagerty wishes all the officers to be "on deck" to assist him. President Hagerty will be "in the background" to advise Lev should Lev need to hear President Hagerty's opinions on plans.
As of this moment, the only "club activity" is the Garden State Chess League. Lev happens to be the President of the GSCL so this temporary change of the WOCC Presidency is expected to be a relatively smooth transition.
As far as the next WOCC Annual Meeting and Election, that will likely be delayed until the club meets in person again.
Concerning the US Amateur Teams East Tournament this year (a two day online event: details here https://njscf.org/blog/2020/10/11/%ef%bb%bffeb-23-new-jersey-junior-high-school-championship/ ), that will be left up to Lev (organizer of teams) and Ken Ganning (WOCC Treasurer) to discuss the possibility of the WOCC forming teams for participation in the event. Please email Lev at polyanker@gmail.com if interested.
President Hagerty can be reached at buickchess@gmail.com or by phone at 973-736-3433 between the hours of 10:00 AM and 9:00 PM for any well wishes or questions.
