This should really be called 'Sometimes 2 bishops are better than queen + rook if you are playing an idiot who sets up a suicidal position for himself'
assuming this isnt a work of fiction, i would say you are 100 percent correct.
i suspect it is a fake thing because if you look at the first puzzle, even if you dont see the "correct" and "incorrect" thing, almost any intelligent move for black wins on the spot. the instinctive move would be to play qxr, but most people who studied the situation first would have probably played r-d1.
i think most intelligent players would agree that it would take extremely bad play from black to lose the game or they deliberately lost. (perhaps they had gotten somebody to bet against them?)
