I wil give the answer till Wednesday and a new puzzle next Sunday. Please don't say is 'easy'  or 'first' or if you don't like it cause is too hard (Good !) go to 'here'
p.s. anyone who use an engine before the answer I will never speak to you again. Tongue out

kco

oops ! made a correction see post #3

I think I've solved it (or at least, I have what I think is the best continuation for Black from this position). So tomorrow (when the solution is scheduled to be given), can I first post my analysis here to find out how close/far-off I was?

Btw, I agree with BorgQueen, this is extremely difficult :)

kco

sure you could post it now if you like, is Wednesday  here Wink

KelsierIsAlive

Oh well.. i think the solution is simple, Rxa5 Qxa5 Qc1+ Bf1  Rd1 with black's clear edge

kco

any idea BorgQueen ?

kco

hold it guys ! s#$% made a bulls up there is suppose to be a black knight on e3 ! EmbarassedEmbarassed

kco

I am very very sorry ! will you forgive me ?Innocent I'll give this puzzle another 24 hrs before I give the solution.

Right, then. I believe the best Black can achieve is a draw:

Yumm

Uh, I think I solved it :D

kco

oh shit cobra I am very sorry for all your hard work on this but I made a boo boo on the diagram but I've corrected it now.

Lol - this changes things a great deal... in the new diagram, 1...Rxe4! wins a free piece, because if 2.fxe4?? an immediate mate follows with 2...Rd1+  3.Bxd1 Qf1+  4.Kh2 Qxg2#

It's okay, though... we all make mistakes Laughing

kco

on your first diagram cobra the best move for black would be Rxa5

Unless I have missed something 1...Rxe4 fails to 2.Qf6, which leaves the prosaic 1...Rxa5.

We're talking about the new, amended diagram (the one with the knight on e3), right? Assuming that's the case, I'm not sure what 2.Qf6 accomplishes (considering how White's already down a whole rook and all)... after 2...Qd6 White would be wise to resign, I think.

I don't think so - in that diagram, Black is down material, so exchanges ought to favor White. Black should only trade pieces if it will result in material gain (which 1...Rxa5 does not).

Spoiler Alert ! answer will be given down below.

Vladmir Liberzon vs Mark Taimanov 1967. Black to play and win (5 moves) note: newpaper error ?

 Solution: 1...Rxe4 !! (a deflection sacrifice opening the f-file) 2.fxe4 Rd1+ (now deflecting the bishop) White resigns- 3.Bxe1 Qf1+  4.Kh2 Qxg2#

This article was written by David Ellis which appear in the "The West Australian"

I think 1.Rxe4  2.fxe4 Rd1+  3.Bxd1 Qf1+  4. Kh2 Qxg2# should result in black win.Cool
