It's an aspect of talent. People are lazy in physical chores because it consumes energy. "Thinking" is very light for some - they even prefer to visualize and calculate without being distracted by a board and pieces - while others hate it as much as cleaning house. The latter try to survive by learning opening moves, middle game tactics and endgame theory. But they will never be GMs
To which degree talent can be replaced with training I don't know. I was one of the lucky guys who could see it all from day one.
I think my greatest weakness its calculation, i find it hard to calculate 4 moves deep, i'm very poor, most of my games i lose due to been outcalculated even on simple positions, its really starting to piss me off
