Puzzle points

Maybe it would be possible to have a chess.com answer to know if they changed something ?

It is true that you get some very high rated puzzles that are very easy - like M2's that aren't particularly complicated.  But in those puzzles, the success rate is often surprisingly low, like 60% or so.  I think because people think "that must be a trap" and go for something else.

The way puzzles are rated by chess.com is really flawed.  On another sleet... I mean site, puzzles' ratings are active, and continue to change as they are played.  Chess.com puzzles ratings are fixed after 100 attempts.

I am embarrassed to say how much time I dedicated to figuring that out....

I just noticed something really cool.  Using the website, you can get your last 25 puzzles, all the stats, via your Stats page.

On the mobile app, it’s a hell of a lot more than 25 that you get.  I stopped counting at 300.

A couple of unrated puzzles I was given ended up with ratings below 500.  Kind of funny.

No hard evidence.   Just a feeling, from regular use - like driving a new car, the controls function the same but the feel and performance are different.   Maybe @squareSquared's wish has been granted?  because today, the puzzles seem to me to be back as they were earlier this week.  If that's really so, maybe @Laurent751000's wish for an answer might also come true.

Or is this all just in my imagination?   But in any case it's nice to have the opportunity to say in passing, if any chess.com staffer responsible for the puzzles is taking any notice of this thread, that the puzzles are really appreciated, so thankyou!

I think it's just gone back to normal!

Earlier today I was getting around 2300 rated puzzles with a 0 streak (my puzzle rating is usually around 3100) and just now I've gotten all 2600 puzzles with a 0 streak, and the difficulty increases rapidly with a streak like before. Probably just a bug.

My understanding is it wasn't a bug. It's possible staff reverted some changes though.

Yes it would be nice if Chesscom staff released something about this

I thought it was a glitch, but it seems to be a clandestine update. Quite frustrating, really.

Lol, I canceled my 6 year recurring sub just yesterday.  The puzzles are the only thing I enjoy, and they completely ruined it.  If I'm rated 2000-2100, why am I only getting 1400-1600 puzzles?

Answer: who cares, I'll find a better chess puzzle place happy.png

I thought you were exaggerating, but I looked at your stats.  Closest puzzle to your rating was like -375 points below, and most -500 or more.  That's nuts.

It's mostly the same with me, but I had a couple that were -150 or so, and then they dropped a +650 on me.  That was my second-last puzzle, and even playing it again a half-hour later I still couldn't solve it.  First two moves right then no clue.

Yes, @Hamur is unfortunately not exagerrating : I'm 2250, I was 2450 and I have only problems around 1400-1600. So it's not very challenging and if I make a mistake, it's a big -15/-17 points.

Ok, I understand that I should not make any mistake and it's a good lesson to learn, but still frustrating happy.png
