hey the puzzle dosen't allow you to move. This is the same one but it allows you to move the pieces.

Swordsman1

White to play and win.

Nytik

I don't think you've missed anything Rooperi, looks like a simple win for black.

Loomis

rooperi, I htought 1. gxf7+ Kh8 2. Be5 threatening the discovered check for mate. I'll let you figure out if  black can deal with that threat.

Edit: I missed the pawn promotion.
Loomis

jhawk, you missed 4. f8=Q# checkmate.

Doesn't work, f8 (Q) #

{edit] I see I got beaten to the punch. Anyway, this is far more interesting than 1 ... Kf8

Nytik

I think 2... Qc5 stops the discovered mate and keeps control of the queening square.

2  ... Qc5 3 Ba1!

Nytik

Why does Ba1 have an exclamation mark on it? It doesn't achieve anything.

rooperi

It's the only square where white cannot cover both the bishop and Queening square.

Bb2 fails to Qb4

Nytik

3. Ba1 Nc7!

What do you have now? Wink

Bb2 fails to Qb4

If Qb4, white moves his king away for a discovered check, black is forced to play Qxb2 and then white plays f8=Q#

Loomis

Bb2 doesn't fail to Qb4 because white simply gives up the bishop Ke6+ Qxb2 f8=Q#

{EDIT: Whoops, this time I was the slow one :-) }

Nytik

Even so, 3... Nc7! refutes all of your bishop moves. Smile (Following on from #16)
