This was a game played by Joshua Waitzkin and Artur Kogan, to see the full game and actual moves please follow the link above. (I am unable to get the link to open in another tab/window. Just a heads up!)

Attempt to figure out the idea after white's Rook push threatening Black's Pawn and defensive position. I also highly recommend looking into this game as things got chaotic and were certainly not of the "standard lines" approach. Please note that I did not figure out the line shown, it was annotated at a later time by Waitzkin as the best possible defensive move.

What an amazing position! Where did white go wrong? The triple filing of the 2 rooks and queen usually wins.

Phylar

Usually. But note Black's incredibly well-placed Knight on f6.

I just got a report. 24. Qg5! instead of Qf3. Alekhine's battering ram rarely fails.

Phylar

Qg5? Nxg7 and after QxRh6 Nf5

Furthermore he could just start walking his King over. However, I'll let you stronger players duke this position out :P

Nobody able to see it? Perhaps it isn't the best move (see above comments) but it is a VERY strong defensive move in a heavily chaotic and interesting position.

Oh and BUMP

swede_speed

Phylar

Mandy, there is little need to take the Rook with the Knight in the position above. Just take with the Bishop.

It's white to move. click >

Yeah, 24. Qg5 Bxg7
