American Pickers

Does anyone watch American Pickers? It''s about these guys, Mike and Frrank, who drive around the country buying anything in the junk to antique spectrum.

They were trying to buy a porcelain Sinclair gas sign, and Mike mentions the Sinclair gas station in Iowa City. I lived in Iowa city, with my parents of course, from birth to about age 4 (roughly) and I could picture that gas station perfectly in my mind. My sister and I loved the dinosaur that was it's mascot.

They had Sinclair stations in upstate New York when I was a kid, a long time ago, back in the 60's and I also fondly remembered that dinosaur.

I was quite surprised to see them still open in the west when I drove out to Colorado two years ago.

Ed, I do not watch American Pickers, but I am familiar with the Sinclair Gas Stations and their logo with the brontosaurus. I grew up in Chicago and at the corner of my street, half a block away from my childhood home, there was a Sinclair Station with old fashioned gas pumps and a rubber hose you would drive over and a bell would "ding" so the attendant would know he had a customer for business. We would try to jump on the rubber hose to hear that "ding" but we were too lightweight to make it ring, unless we jumped really hard. No self service. The attendant would always wash the windows and check the oil. Yup, Rudy's Sinclair. Rudy was a real nice guy. Those days are gone forever. But, maybe you could find an old sign to recall such memories...
