I haven't read many novels, but I enjoyed The Shining by Stephen King very much, so I'd say it's my favorite.
My favorite movie is difficult. Probably Pulp Fiction or Schindler's List.

I've read a few of his books. Salem's Lot is another pretty solid book. I'll check out Misery if I have the chance.
I understand what you're saying about Schindler's List. I've seen it twice, and it doesn't really sit well with me, but it's still an amazing movie.
