A large portion of their funding is directly from patients and insurance. They fleece their victims.

The health industry could fight them on the behalf of patients but they would have to sacrifice financially. Doctors and healthcare workers would have to take drastic pay cuts. This will decrease the quality of healthcare bit would keep government out of it.

There is a guy who is applying for a patent for a machine that can supposedly regrow lost limbs

Private ventures are experimental and will be greedy too. After trial and error they can competition with the healthcare industry and offer alternatives for patients.
