Can cigarettes give you the edge over your oponent?

It may even be a self-influencing effect that if you smoke a cigarette you win. I've never noticed better brain function when I smoke. But I won't argue if it's a proven fact. The main thing is not to abuse it. You could also try a smoking simulator. Maybe it works just as well grin.png

Honestly….people do crazy stuff to win at the top levels of any competition

And I’m certain there are much worse substances to ingest that substantially boost things like concentration and alertness and stamina

I wouldn’t be surprised if top players are prescribed such drugs or given them in small doses by their coaches

I usually don't play whilst smoking but with this new revelation I must admit I have been getting better!

If you really don't care about your health, why not try smoking extra during your chess games? Try smoking two or three cigs at a time - Maybe you'll win even more games!

Too hard to smoke continuously and move pieces, I've tried. Gunna have a smoke now and kick some butt. Cheers!

Not continuously...not chain smoking...two or three cigs at once... Try it, what do you have to lose? ;-)

Yeah, but I'm assuming he's talking about online games. And, it's entirely possible that he's not even doing this and he's just trolling us. He's the only one who knows for sure...

I feel very sorry for those people who are addicted by smoking . I wonder how many people die each year from smoking 🚬 🤷‍♂️

According to the CDC about 480,000 each year in the USA. My best friend for forty years, since childhood in fact, died of lung cancer caused by smoking. His last request was for friends and family to quit smoking. I think two of us actually managed to quit. Starting smoking was the worst decision of my life. Quitting was the best. Chess is not worth giving yourself up to cancer, COPD, or any other smoking related disease. Quit before you become just a memory to those who love you.

Obese Americans!!!   #1 You are the greatest guys. Hey! But whatever you do don't have a smoke....lolololol

Heart disease has been the #1 killer in the USA for years. Obesity plays a part but smoking is also a leading cause of heart disease.

I would think smoking has no long term benefits, especially in the sense that you’re using it to gain the advantage in chess. Smoking becomes an addiction, which is a shame, but it’s much like alcohol or drugs where you will get a temporary high.

You feel a spike in: emotions, awareness, and the processing of thoughts. But that is from the dopamine which is caused by the nicotine release. This may seem beneficial, but it is like an energy drink. You will feel really energized after that first drink but then you’ll be at a lower spot than where you first started.

Smoking can lead to severe health problems (specifically with lungs) or quite possibly something more severe such as death. Your best bet if you’re addicted is to go into rehab and work on reversing the effects and good feelings that smoking has put in your brain. From this point, you can learn to substitute and use other methods to get the same feeling that smoking gave you. Substitution will be a difficult process, but may have some major advantages.

So yes, it can give you the upper hand when going against your opponent, but that doesn’t make it the best option. I could knock my opponent out and have the higher ground. Doesn’t mean it was the best choice. Anyways, before anyone comes at me, I want to clarify that these are simply my personal opinions, with facts sprinkled in throughout.

Ha! We're getting revenge on the rest of the world. We've been slyly exporting our poor diet to the other countries of the world. Obesity is now a worldwide problem. (I used to be obese. Went keto, and now I'm normal weight.)

That doesn’t make cigarette smoking any less dangerous . 🙀

Soon I expect to see a pic posted showing a fat American driving a gas guzzler, no seatbelt, smoking, and drinking some booze... :-)

That's true. At least fire engines and ambulances and police cars help save lives. I don't know anybody 'saved' by cigarettes. Oh no, wait! There's those guys in front of firing squads. They get to smoke a cigarette before they're shot. So smoking nets them a few more minutes of precious life. Of course, even that tradition has probably been tossed into the ashbin of history. The shooters likely complain about second-hand smoke.......

The firing squad just needs to be upwind of the condemned prisoner...

Woollensock2
If the condemned guy puffs hard enough, he can make a smoke screen and do a runner 🏃‍♂️
