We need more angry smilies for guys like me who are usually grumpy, just kidding. You make some interesting points.
chess com smilies

I'd like a Devil smiley for when I do something wicked (which I try to do every time I play chess). Of course if my wicked attempt fails I would like a red-faced, embarrassed smiley.
I can help with one of your questions, Emi. In English, when we say something inappropriate or clumsy -- usually something that embarrasses either ourselves or another person -- we say we have put our foot in our mouth. Even so, that particular smiley doesn't seem particularly appropriate.
But "money-mouth" is a mystery to me. Maybe, as you say, it's American humour. (If it is American, of course, I should probably spell it "humor".)
Thunderbird (Mozilla's email program) has sixteen smileys (emoticons) available, including the mysterious "money mouth".

yeah, I know what you mean Dozy. I got a devil smilie in yahoo and it comes really handy sometimes. Thanks for the explanation. I did not think of that, which is a subtlety of the language I don't speak every day. I never bothered to learn the differencies between English and American English . I know that even if I like the English accent I don't always understand what the person says and even if American English is errrr well, accentless, I can at least grab the meaning in most cases. Now I wish I knew where my English accent lies
Howdy ladies and gentlemen,
Smilies....who doesn't use them ? Come on, raise your hands !!
I can't raise my hand, 'cause I do use them. I feel they are an important tool of communication. When you feel words are not enough you got this wonderful option which helps you express your feelings. When you use them you want to make sure that whoever reads your lines will understand you 100%. I can smile ( now that's a nice idea ), I can wink ( "jing" ), I can laugh ( hehe, good joke ), I can frown ( geesh, why did he have to make that move ?! ) , I can cry ( waaaa I had this game on my little finger's tip! how the hell did he checkmated me !!!! ) I can even yell ( I added it, but I never used it ). A nice clapping hands smilie would be a smart addition to the list. I would use it in all the proper situations , when I admire either a good move or a piece of article / blog that I find in the forums. However, I lack the understanding of American humour. I don't seem to find any explanation of this smilie here
. My imagination failed me every time I tried to see myself raising my right foot up to my mouth. Nature took its course and if I could do that when I was in my baby cradle and enjoyed chewing on my larger toe ( of my right leg of course ! I am not lefty ) I can't do that anymore. You see, I am not that flexible now as I used to be when I was a baby.
The money mouth (
) is a mystery ever since I got to this site.I used to show my tongue in lots of different occasions when I was a kid but I am pretty sure it was not green. Does anyone have idea what it means ? I would definetely appreciate it.
