Yeah ,just letting it run wild and kill many people and smash health services sounds like a really good idea..dunnit

There are many things that kill many more people than corona do you want everyone to sit in their home everyone would go bankrupt and the world wouldnt work anymore then you have problems.

You seem to be missing the point that the only reason there's "only" 88,000 deaths reported thus far is because of the measures being taken.  So, in your scenario, lift all measures and let 8 billion people get it, 9% of those over age 65, with about 10% of those dying...gee, that's only up to 72 million people...WW2 casualty numbers.  I didn't even add in the numbers for under 65...another 14.4 million people at 0.2%.  This also assumes we have enough ventilators and supplies to handle hundreds of millions of people just as well as they are being treated now, otherwise the death rate skyrockets.

You still have internet service, so...I assume you are still eating, as well wink.png.

No disease in the world gets to everyone that logic doesnt hold up For example my mother just had the flu for two weaks went visiting her everyday didnt got the flu myself will be with covid for many and if u read my reaction i said distance and protect elderly so you can scratch those 72 million and if u give rules to 0.2 percent  like social distancing  mouth masks maybe more rules you will end up with an even lower number and your economy will be intact or do you wanna count how many peoples lives will be worse if the economy plummets like this and there are other side effects like a lot of countries free inmates witch is also a danger to society.Besides we cant sit in our homes forever everyone would die because the world wouldnt work anymore.

I'll just stop you right there.  Your first sentence doesn't even jive with your second.  Everyone has had the flu, it gets to everyone eventually wink.png...premise shot by your own gun.

Even if you assume that only 50%-70% get the virus on the first wave (which is why I said "up to 72 million"), the numbers are still hundreds of times higher than your post claiming that 90,000 dying was not worth the economic damage.  Just pack it in.

Over a couple of years of course you are right everyone has flu sometime but i get the feeling with all these companies working for a vaccin or medication we will get done with covid within a year and all those rules will harm us more then they helped us as society

Luckily enough for us all, the feelings of a 27 year old are not the criteria for making these decisions...

Hindsight years from now will put this in perspective, and you will remember the outbreak more than the money wink.png...

Have a good evening.

Hopefully we wouldnt remember the outbreak witch would mean that not to many people have died if u are not worried about the money that probably means that your life doesnt change that mutch if u miss income for a these corona months but for some of us it will change our life greatly.and government should be consistent with how they deal with other things they dont quarantaine for gun violence witch kill many people or traffic accidents other things that kill millions so they are inconsistent the least .

Agreed. Take air pollution, for instance. The WHO has stated that air pollution kills 7 million people a year:

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-05-01/air-pollution-kills-7-million-people-a-year-who-reports

Now, Covid hasn't been around a year, but it's been around for over a quarter of one. If we divide 7 million by 4, we get over 2 million. So far, Covid hasn't even killed 5% of that, with less than 90,000 deaths so far. When you factor in the evidence suggesting that air pollution is a large factor in the deadliness of covid 19, well, I think we can see what the greater danger is here.

I agree but governments wont focus on that because those  companies make a lot of money and some of that money gets to politicians same with weapon indunstry so they focus on something wich only hurts the ordinary working man.

You think we are making a good job of it anyway then ?

Ignore pollution, poverty, inequality global warming and so on ?

Can you read what i say and what phoenix75 say we should focuse on those things and less on corona

Geodexic

According to the last information that there is the possibility this virus also spread through air borne. Not just through droplet.

Also the world war 2 reference is misleading since most people that died in war are young people twenties or thirties and most people who die from covid eighty nighty and 100 hundred years old.

Most NYC Covid-19 Cases Came From Europe, Genome Researchers Say

Than mean a complete ban from anyone coming from Europe in Feb will have saved a lot of lives!

The explosion of Covid-19 cases in the New York City area resulted largely from infected patients who flew in from Europe, genome scientists say.

About two-thirds of the samples appear to have European origins, said Adriana Heguy, director of the Genome Technology Center at the medical center. The virus appears to have been imported to New York from the U.K. and several European countries, including France, Austria and the Netherlands, she said.

Maybe this will dismiss some of the arguments......                                         https://www.yahoo.com/news/fauci-dismisses-conspiracy-theories-to-spin-the-coronavirus-death-toll-132059427.html

I run into a lot of that sort of nonsense on some of the forums I use: Fauci is a deep state operative. Fauci and Birx are intentionally trying to tank the economy to undermine Trump. Fauci is anti-hydroxychloroquine because of some connection to Bill Gates who is pushing for a vaccine.  The death toll projections were lies.

Even the left is getting in on the act.  Chris Hayes was claiming the death toll projection may have been inflated to make Trump look good when we come in under the projections.

I see, so it's a relative value of human life equation for you?  Tens of millions would be okay if it's just old people? wink.png

He would have fit in well in Nazi Germany.

As I said...in hindsight, you will remember the outbreak and the experience, not the money.  I know you feel like a few months of financial hardship will "change your life greatly", but I guarantee you, remembering how you had to eat top ramen and live with your best friend for a while will not compare to your memory of going to work, catching the virus, and then passing it to someone you love and watching them die.

That there are things that people feel are worse is not an argument for ignoring, well, anything.  That's a fallacious argument happy.png.

Yeah, it would be great if environmental issues were taken seriously.  Much like recycling and trying to cut down on emissions, though, people have some personal responsibility to others to do what they can.  In this case, it's shelter in place et al.

If anything i hope this virus teaches us that we can do without a lot of things we thought we couldn't live without.
