Covid-19 Discussion (moderated)

the problem with them is that they do affect the rest of us. just read about the measles outbreak in the u.s. northwest when so many dolts thought the vaccine caused autism.

they also affect how much i pay for healthcare.

they also affect how schools can be run in states where *parental rights* matter more than anything else.

they also affect a gradual decline in the trust of the scientific method-which developed all the vaccines many of us have had.

so, while they don't 'get the best of me', i am regularly dismayed at the ignorance of many and the distrust of science, statistics, and history, usually from those with little knowledge of any of those subjects. of note is that i do not claim to be an expert in said subjects. just one that reads those with expertise in those areas.

See, *now* there's a topic of a illegal virology lab that people can talk about.

Warning: The same rules apply on this thread as always. So, talk about the clandestine lab all your like, but do not post rumors or conspiracy theories, and if challenged, be prepared to list your sources.

I don't have a link but my local news said the C.D.C has a Covid booster for late summer/early fall. I think the design is for some Omicron variant. I thought it odd that we assume, "oh its all over". Not so fast. When I get more detail I'll post. If it sounds like common sense, I'll get the shot. I wanna see another Christmas. wink

Covid was bad, but the worst part of it was the aftermath of everyone being antisocial and not hanging out anymore
AlCzervik

realtorch, i would disagree. i don't think (in the u.s., anyhow) there are still people staying in and keeping away from others when out.

the worst part was all the unnecessary death. then there are those still suffering from long covid and brain fog.

Agreed. Over a million deaths is a little more significant than "bummer, nobody wants to hang out". I guess the problem is that killing only 1 in 330 people in the US means that there are still far too many people that did not directly know somebody that died...

Just ask any frontline healthcare worker about the pandemic.

Here's some good medical news. I think this was found accidentally in a Japanese lab....... https://www.yahoo.com/news/cancer-stopping-drug-annihilates-solid-122940835.html

Here's a decision that should curtail some of the crap we've seen in this thread...

You Tube is not the only one who's been hard at work. It seems that Dept of Justice is busy prosecuting hundreds of people who tauted false claims of Covid. shock https://www.yahoo.com/news/doj-charges-371-people-launches-162723241.html

Forgive me if this has been covered. I only went back to Ron's post on Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in deer. CWD is actually quite widespread, has even been detected in PA. It has not been known to transfer to humans yet, as far as I know.

But that's not why I came. I bumped into a study of covid in whitetail deer. It seems to be quite contagious in deer but probably not very deadly. They have found a number of cases of human to deer transmission and a small number of probable deer to human transmission. Some are worried the deer population may act as a reservoir for the virus and a possible source of mutations.

I first stumbled on this article and immediately doubted the writer's knowledge because the first picture is a mule deer despite it being labeled "white-tailed-deer-jumping-01.jpg". Later there is a picture of a whitetail deer.

I was interested so I found these from the USDA and OSU,

https://news.osu.edu/covid-19-virus-is-evolving-rapidly-in-white-tailed-deer/

edit: I did some searching at the Pennsylvania Game Commission's (PGC) website. They publish a monthly magazine called "Pennsylvania Game News" that had this article on CWD in a June 2019 edition. https://www.pgc.pa.gov/InformationResources/Documents/Pennsylvania%20Game%20News%20June%202019%20Missing%20the%20Point%20on%20CWD.pdf

I also found the PGC has been testing rehabilitated bats for covid before releasing them into the wild. They're also performing tests on deer and a limited amount on elk, which they believe may be susceptible.

Deer have not been covered that I can recall happy.png, but we did talk about cats being able to catch coronaviruses quite a while back. Note for other people reading this that humans can infect animals, but it rarely happens that animals infect humans...don't spread rumors about animals spreading the virus, thanks.

The list of animals that can catch COVID-19 is constantly evolving as scientists learn more about the virus. However, the following animals have been confirmed to be infected with COVID-19:

- Companion animals, including pet cats, dogs, hamsters, and ferrets.
- Animals in zoos and sanctuaries, including several types of big cats (e.g., lions, tigers, snow leopards), otters, non-human primates, a binturong, a coatimundi, a fishing cat, hyenas, hippopotamuses, and manatees.
- Mink on mink farms.
- Wildlife, including white-tailed deer, mule deer, a black-tailed marmoset, a giant anteater, and wild mink near mink farms.

You're not the first person to think they will garner some "street cred" amongst the ignorant by getting blocked here, but I don't block people on this thread by request. If you seriously desire to be blocked and have your name enshrined on the first page, though, you're going to have to jump through the hoops...

Now dance for the amusement of those who don't want to be willfully ignorant wink.png, or shoo...your choice. I don't care either way, but your attempt to be disingenuous is not bearing fruit.

I agree covid is a serious problem, but this country took it way too far, and others like the Cayman Islands were even more insane with their covid laws (like jail time for breaking quarantine or whatever). Lockdowns did far more harm to innocent people than good. Vaccines also did not work. I got both Pfizer shots, and not only got severe covid with agonizing symptoms, but was in the hospital for 2 days, and I am a 23 yo guy. Had an agonizing sore throat, couldnt drink for 2 days, a 102-103 fever, dangerous dehydration (also had diherrea), and my blood pressure peaked at 180/116. Needed prescription medication for both the pain and nausea. So much for "reducing symptoms and hospitalization". Never got a booster after that, in fact haven't gotten a vaccine of any kind since early 2021. We need an anti-viral treatment. (I did notice my leftover Paxlovid helps alot with normal cold symptoms, but not sure how much it helped with the covid).

There's nothing much block-worthy in that post...going to have to try harder to be unreasonable, I guess.

If the vaccines didn't work *for you*, then maybe you were on the cusp of Omicron or some variant that did not have a modified booster yet? I would hate to think you were one of those people whose treatment got messed around with by some crackpot, or that you had a bad batch ala the J&J manufacturing scandals.

Thanks for talking about how severe it was at 23. Lots of naysayers on this thread (and the other large threads that got locked) are adamant that nobody who was not already at death's door ever got hospitalized.

EndgameEnthusiast2357

I wasn't trying to get blocked, but I am fairly surprised you didn't to be honest. The vaccine didn't just not work, am not trying to *claim* there was a correlation, but I also had mental symptoms worsen a few days after getting the jab, and had some difficulty breathing/dizziness for 10 hours the day right after getting it (like I had the flu but without the respiratory symptoms). It was barely a year since I got both doses when I came down with covid (think I got it from South Carolina after I was there in June 2022). But yeah the test said it was the 2nd or 5th subvariant of Omicron, whichever one was in circulation around June/July 2022.
