People would vote for other presidential candidates on the ballot, or write in somebody. Mail-in ballots for Trump would be void, they would not go toward Pence, for example. Pence would be president during the lame duck period from election to swearing in of a new president.

One can not appreciate what he did during his presidency and how he has been dealing with the COVID19 pandemic, and the adage "you reap what you sow" is most adequate here. He doesn't have to die to be really sick and have high fever and a lot of sleepless night and feel very weak for weeks....and being really depressed because of all that....but it can easily be worst because he is 74 and not 50 and 39 pounds over weight and his cardio health is far from healthy after eating thousands of fast food meals...
I know that, I just hope he will not be really sick or worse. As I said, I would not wish for anyone to fall sick or die, especially not him right now.
I wonder what the new strategy in coping with COVID19 will be afterwards. Would he change his stance on the gravity of the virus and tell people to wear masks? Or would he, as Bolsonaro did, brag that he went through it with ease? Seeing the tweet he left to announce the bad news, which was actually both plain and somewhat heartfelt (not his usual style anyway), on could think that maybe he is acknowledging the gravity of the situation.

. That kind of reversal takes self-awareness beyond anything publicly displayed thus far.

If he get out of it easily he will use it to say that he was right all along and that it;s like the flue and it's a hoax like he said from the start....a snake oil salesmen is not going to become an ethical man.

With Trump setting the tone, his aides and supporters have eschewed mask-wearing, and as recently as Tuesday, Trump questioned during the debate whether they were effective, despite evidence that they are the best way to collectively slow the spread of the virus.

Covid 19 is bad. And Trump, Bolsonaro and Ayuso are morons who are helping the spread.
My news front page. France has reported quite a lot of infections these few days, again, and it seems as though the Coronavirus crisis is not going to stop anytime soon there.
The directives have been so confusing and contradictory the whole time, and the restrictions have become so harsh as a result that my mother is now starting to believe that the government is fabricating the infection numbers, and that the virus outbreak in France has been used by politicians to turn the people's heads away from a looming economic crisis.
The French being suspicious of their governments all the time, and with the crisis worsening, I do suspect more fringe theories to come out and the people to vehemently display their anger in the street.

The other day I spoke with a person who told me that there was no virus, and the vaccines will be an excuse to put chips inside us, to keep us controlled.
A basement dweller freak? Nope, a father of two kids in his early fifties.
Clearly a good education does not guarantee a non belief in fringe theories, conspiracy theories. My mother has received a good education, and so did my grandparents and the many doctors and politicians that advocate all kinds of non-approved treatments or "weird" theories on the origin of the virus and the official narratives that surround it.

However, what is needed is unity, comprehension, and compassion.
Look at what full-blown partisanship is doing to the US right now, if people start stigmatizing each other too, society will never get better, and there will be more of those so called "freaks".
