i'm... still confused
Does True Randomness Actually Exist?
He was explaining how his grandfather stole his nose when he was a child and then, with a flick of his wrist, made it reappear.
I mean what were you ACTUALLY talking about
Hi @ TenGolf.
Noodles doesn't accept that the earth goes around the sun.
He doesn't accept that it spins too.
He doesn't accept that its round.
He doesn't accept that it moves at all.
He thinks that things like that -that are very evident to most people should be questioned constantly by him - over and over and over. The same things. He just said so further up.
Can other members do anything about him interfering with conversations that are based on things people are confident about or certain of - like that the earth moves?
One of the resources is for members to simply have conversations independent of his agenda.
But what often happens instead is that certain people get baited into trolling his posts and trolling him himself.
Resulting in a slingshot effect- and forums he's in are then hijacked from there.
Does he intend that? The effect is the same whether he intends it or not.
---------------------
Regarding 'precession' of axial spin - yes 'precession' is a fancy word.
I attempted to give a simple and generic explanation of it earlier.
The earth's spin (yes it moves that way) is tilted to the plane of its orbit around the sun (orbit. Yes the earth moves that way too.)
Its tillted at an angle of 23.5 degrees to its orbital plane.
The top of the tilt is the North Pole. The bottom - the South Pole.
The tilt angle leads to attention to lines of latitude called the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.
And the Arctic Circle and the Antarctic Circle.
And to words like 'tropical' and 'subtropical'.
------------------
All of that you probably know and understand.
But there's this thing called the 'orientation' of that tilt.
Which refers to which way the tilt points instead of how much tilt.
That way changes over a lot of time.
That change is called precession.
@Ten Golf
Want something shorter and simpler?
the equator is where it is because of the tilt of the spin of the earth - in other words its tilted too.
Tilted - but not jilted.
@noodles2112 NEVER takes on board information that would improve his understanding. He is committed to staying wrong.
But if he can provoke particular people to 'bark' hard enough at him and in a very personal way then the effect could be to hurt the atmosphere while he runs away laughing.
That doesn't mean that that's what he intends though.
An 'effect' as opposed to an intention.
@Elroch - his constant attacks on heliocentrism and other things so many people accept as very very evident could have an effect of frustrating your efforts to present the real science?
Not if his posts are used as opportunites to present that real science and such presentation leads to many positive conversations between others about that real science and about other things - independent of his geocentrism and flat-earthism.
I understand your attempt to keep the peace but encouraging people like noodles and endlessgames claiming they create "talking points" ignores what anyone can plainly see.
Noodles has been disrupting otherwise sane conversations for years. He does so whether or not science is involved. He has had all his nonsense explained ad infinitum. He simply ignores and moves to other points in orher places.
Endlessgames is well on his way to being just as disruptive.
Encouraging them to continue adds to the problem.
It's pretty clear that some people around here are slow learners and it isn't noodles since there are more things in life to learn than heliocentrism.
