I am a dracologist (a learner of dragons), and have learned that there are MANY types of dragons. A few are:
Western: Typical, common, four-legged winged dragons, commonly with fire breath
Wyverns: Dragons lacking forelegs, often with bird-like hindquarters and larger wings
Wyrms: Limbless dragons
Amphitheres: Legless, serpentine winged dragons
Drakes: Typically seen as "Western," short and stocky, often depicted as fire or ice
Lindwyrms: Like wyrms, but with forelegs
Fae: Insectoid wings
Most dragons have wings, fire breath, and grasping forelimbs, and are also exceedingly smart.
My dragons, however, are a tad different. I have made several species, ranging across types, from amphitheres to wyverns. I have also created an entire language and land for them, Draconia, and its language, Draconian.
Draconia is a continent roughly the size of North America in an alternate universe. Mainly inhabited by dragons of varying species, it has many environments, from scorching desert to freezing tundra. About 10 major species inhabit the land, along with several other minor species. The species are:
Ukurahtex: Largest dragons in the land. Wyverns with black sclera, red or black irises, and red, orange, or golden scales. Can breathe fire, and are extremely strong and fast.
Kahlehahtex: Second largest species. Western dragons with blue or red eyes and black or gray scales with purple or blue highlights. Can breathe fire and have future sight at times.
Puraeahtex: Seafaring dragons. Look Western, with four limbs and wings, but have gills. Have yellow or red eyes, and blue, yellow, or orange scales
