Fun fact: Australia used to be called New Holland.

Interesting. I did not know that. Thanks for the info.

For someone who doesn't care you spend an awful lot of time spouting about it.

I really don't care about you or your stupid thread. Don't care about anybody bashing America either. And, I guess my American friends were right to point out that the Brits will always have some grudge against America to be objective judges of the situation. After all, it was America who brought the British Empire to its knees. :)

Britain,

I like the way you said that with no apparent sense of irony.

Not at all, the Scots hate the English, the Welsh hate the English, the English hate everybody, including most of the other English. And yet we can all get along somehow.

Pastafarians however...

Actually, this is rather an extreme position. Ah, you see? Even our religion has its extremist, fanatical wing!

Er... Actually, I think that, if you want to go that way, you will have to consider that America only exists because the British found her — otherwise, your land would still be indwelt by American Indians, and she would never have a hundredth of the power she now has.

Avatar of Pulpofeira

You can't do that to the Brits. It's only they were losing some lands here and there.

In case you misunderstood my statement was directed towards mackytom and his America-bashing thread... There are a lot of people with a similar attitude here on forums and I can't stand that. I pointed out that I don't really care about opinions like that but still wanted to show my displeasure... And, of course, the points I am trying to make are never intended to offend the more neutral and rationally thinking people - people like you.

Now, to the point you made. Of course the first 13 colonies were primarily British. It was the chief reason that the US is an English-speaking nation today. But later came all sorts of other Europeans and, later, Africans, Asians, and other Americans to make it the country it is today. Later, when America became a superpower, it did everything possible to establish itself as the pre-eminent one while making Europe its inferior. Ever since WWII, in relationship between Europe and the US, the US almost exclusively assumes the role of the leader while Europe follows. Europe has been dependant on US Military for security for over 70 years now (the Eastern Europe for 25). Like it or not but that's the Reality. So, in conclusion, America's power is not so much due to the British (although they did have the primary influence), but also others who followed.

And the UN is your bitch.

For now, let us set our differences aside and express solidarity with the French.

Ah! That explains it.

Regarding America's global power, yes, you're quite right about that. But, of course, Europe too has her own military forces. It's not like America rules the world — fortunately!

I agree. My heart is with France. I pray that the injured my be healed, the victims' relatives may be comforted, that the perpetrators may be found and punished, and that security may be increased so as to prevent further attacks.
