I read one of Shermer's books. I found it a great help in understanding why people I have known believed such bizarre things even though they were very intelligent people. I found the video informative.
Funny fact. My right eye is perfectly normal, but it never formed a proper connection with my brain. I can hardly see out of it, but since my left eye is normal, I do not need glasses.
The left brain/right brain part of the video made me think of this.

He puts anyone questioning 9/11, the JFK assassination, and those investigating the UFO phenomenon in the same pejorative category, "conspiracy theorists", and discrediting them as believing in "bizarre things". That's pretty idiotic to me.
IMO, those "in power" just aren't capable of grand scale, massive conspiracy. People just can't keep their mouths shut when they know juicy details. Information is difficult to control.
Minor conspiracies can work, and often get busted with spectacular news coverage.
I would not characterize Shermer as naive.
One of my favorite blogs:
I didn't say anthing to imply that "all information about everything flows freely and unihibited everywhere to everyone in real time like some magical rainbow information river" so I'm not really sure how you arrived at the conclusion that I think all people have perfect information. In fact, IMO most decisions are based on imperfect information, mainly due to ignorance, cost/benefit of the time spent to research, etc., and not necessarily due to conspiracies.
There have been plenty of information leaks in the very organizations you are using as examples. Some people can keep their mouths shut, but there are plenty more who can't. Jumping straight to "conspiracy" when there are plenty of common sense explanations is what Shermer argues against. I think he's right.
I am puzzled at your hostile tone.
