Places in Provence are now expensive. Hope anytown is nice, i got a good time in California, route one from Venice (72, end of hippie move) to Marine county, Santa Clara, Oakland.

It does sound pricey down there. Maybe Lorraine? General Patton said it was strategically worthless and populated by miserable farmers. Sounds like Missouri.

i wouldn't suggest Lorraine for holiday, I lived close, in Meuse dept, very interesting ... historically. i lived two years in Verdun 55 Meuse, F. My grand father too, as many people, he left one lung there, and was on COTE 304, not especially for tourism, but waiting for US.

First time for me to be in an US base, plenty of buddies in, i was 12, ETAIN NATO USAF base. We played ...war.

Patton was right, nothing to do with FULDA , Guderian path, or Khyber pass; in Lorraine the only strategical place i know is Domremy, place from where started offensive angainst our english cousins. 

Farmers were not all miserable : MIRABELLE , fruit and alcohol is wealth, incredible tasty. Miam. One month ago i watch on TV an english specialized in old pieces of equipment of wars, coming in LORRAINE and he founded a rare command car : from PATTON 1ST time in Lorraine 1917. It was in a farm, the farmer had a ALI BABA cavern with all kinds of equipment and Patton's command car WWone ! No idea of he value, she was in good shape.
