Oh so it’s just like learning to skate but like more advanced?

Pretty much, yeah. Once you get past level 8 and move to bronze silver and gold it'd be figure skating, at least where I do it

Finally. Just last Saturday, After two months of managing to get to a lesson every few weeks or so due to busyness, I finished the final required item to pass level 7. This level had some fairly interesting things in it: crossrollers; inside and outside edges along semi circles (not the correct name but I can't remember what it was exactly); landing positions; and lastly Mohawks (I'm still not sure how the name relates to what's actually done). So as of... Well whenever I get to a lesson again, I'll be in level 8 figure skating lessons.

How many total levels are there, and how do you move up levels? Is there a test?

Well, at least the leisure centre where I go for lessons, their levels go from 1-8 with 3 additional ones as bronze, silver and gold after them.
For moving up levels there's not necessarily a specific test per se. Basically each week when we're in for our half hour lesson, our instructors work us through the various parts of the level, both teaching and assessing. The instructors have a device with all the pupils skating info on it, and they'll grade each pupil as they go through the different parts during a lesson (the grading has like 5 levels from poor to excellent I think). The gradings result in percentages for each part, and once you've reached 100% in each that's when you've passed.

Wow, that's a lot. So this means that you're moving onto the last level?

Yep. Last Saturday I just had Mohawks left to do. Our teachers don't like teaching them as much since I guess most of the time pupils struggle with them longer than the other things in level 7, and I hadnt actually done them in any previous lessons up until just that day. Luckily I caught on quick, since it was fairly similar to a three-turn on the outside edge, and I managed to 100% that and thus get told I was moving up.
