Well, yeah...OK I thought of the joke (circa junior high school) before actually reading your post. And then afterwards I figured I could always say it's a kind of Taoist taking off his sandal and hitting you over the head with it retort. I suppose in Western terms it was meant as irony. Or maybe I just haven't progressed much beyond junior high school...
