Gamma Rays - Could they be responsible for 'Intelligence' ?

Total speculation but what if the kick start to our evolution was a Gamma ray from an exploding nearby star millions of years ago causing a genetic mutation which eventually lead to Intelligent Homo Sapiens.

If it did then many planets around other stars surrounding that explosion would also have evolved Intelligence in it's animal population.

Gamma rays rays are a form of radiation, which just means it is a bunch of protons being shot out at a high velocity hich woul not affect a evolving cell, justharm it.

yes, causing a mutation which leads to damage in most but for the odd one could have lead to the mutation which started the long road to Intelligence .

No, all that would have done would make the cell itself radioactive by giving it more protons, which means that we would be having problems with different elements.
Gamma rays do not "Mutate" as they did the hulk, it's just a way of cell warfare.

Gamma rays can in fact cause mutations, this is why they can cause cancer. And you appear to be confusing protons with photons.

Still, though, the rate of mutation without radiation is more than enough to drive evolution. Trying to attribute everything to radiation misses the point in a rather extreme way.

Mutations are the result of changes to DNA, which is easily done with high-energy radiation (or old peanuts!). Only changes in the germ-cell line will be inherited by your offspring, though.

It is a bit of a stretch to attribute THE reason for intelligence to Gamma rays alone i'll give you that.

But it would answer the question as to why it took SO LONG for Intelligence to evolve...several Billion years. Why not sooner? It may well have taken that sort of time span for a close enough star in our galaxy to go Nova. Like I said at the outset it's just idle musing on my part as to why Intelligence took so long to evolve. In the case of 'Ofgeniuskind' his families ancestors appear to have been on the other side of the planet when that star exploded wink.png

Early Earth was awash in radiation, since the atmosphere was much different from the current one. That's why life first emerged at the bottom of the ocean rather than on the surface.
