I have a few problems i just don't get and can't figure out.

39. The survey plat depicted on page 155 of your textbook shows two lots that form a trapezoid. The measures of the parallel sides are 115.80 ft and 171.00 ft. The height of the trapezoid is 165.97 ft. Find the combined area of the two lots. Round your answer to the nearest hundredth of a square foot.

40. Lot A in the figure on page 155 of your textbook is in the shape of a trapezoid. The parallel sides measure 26.84 ft and 82.05 ft. The height of the trapezoid is 165.97 ft. Find the area of Lot A. Round your answer to the nearest hundredth of a square foot.

41. The U.S. Postal Service requires that any box sent through the mail have length plus girth (distance around) totaling no more that 108 in. The maximum volume that meets this condition is contained by a box with a square end 18 in on each side. What is the length of the box? What is the maximum volume?

PLEASE BE AS INSTRUCTIVE AS POSSIBLE... THANKS!

39. Area of a trapezoid

trap

b1, b2 are the lengths of the two bases (parallel sides)

a is the altitude or height of the trapezoid

b1=115.80

b2=171.00

a=165.97

b1+b2=286.80 then divide by 2 = 143.40

now 165.70 x 143.40 = 23761.38

area=23761.38 square feet

does that help?
