Guys: this isn't a dating site!

Hi heterosexual male chess players,  I am a female player who loves chess and chess.com.  Most of the people I play are awesome!  If there is a chat between us during play, my opponents are usually friendly, kind, encouraging and helpful.  I often end up being chess.com friends with many.  I don't encounter too many female players on chess.com.  It's mostly guys.  And, as I said, although the majority of the guys I've played are there for the game and a common interest, some guys see I am a female player and almost immediately start "hitting on" or "flirting with" me.  I know that's human nature to a large extent.  But in the hope that this message reaches even an iota of the guys who do that, please stop.  I get that psychology has a lot to do with the game.  Hitting on players might be a strategy used to distract and unnerve female players.  But, that would not be allowed in a tournament setting (right?), so why do it online?  Thanks for listening.  And if you have hateful comments in response to this post, then you are probably exactly the type of person this message is for.  Before lashing out, just be the intelligent chess player/thinker you are and consider this view.  From ALL other players, I would appreciate hearing from you.  Has anyone else noticed this?  Is all fair in chess and war?  Thank you.  Your chess friend, N

If it causes them to use up their Blitz time hit on me all you want. All they know is I am one of 350,000,000 people in the USA. If it was OTB, then it would be unacceptable.

Since I am male I don't know what aggravations female players sometimes have to go through. The good news according to NicoleDrefus is that the annoying guys are among the minority of us. I have played some female players that decided to play only female players. There was one occasion when I played a female new member for the first time. In the chat box I opened the game with my usual "Hi. Good luck. " She replied "Hey! I'm here just to play chess and not for flirting" (or something like that). I replied "Hey! Please wait until I've written something inappropriate before you scold me" (or something like that). She replied "LOL". We completed that game without further incident and played several more." So, I can only imagine what many (most probably) female players have to put up with.

They just aren't any good at "hitting on" and that's why you notice. Bit of a conundrum .....
